Is anyone hesitant giving their child Tylenol given what the FDA (in the US) is saying? I was sometimes using it since my son is teething and now have stopped. I was just wondering what anyone else was thinking on this subject.

I only use tylenol when necessary and use "Gentle Naturals" homeopathic teething drops for most days.(get them at walgreens, target or grocery store) Its all natural and safe to use every 2 hours if needed. My son gets relief from them but I do sometimes need the tylenol especially before bed. It just ensures he won't wake screaming when cutting a tooth.

I should add that I also use Hyland's teething tablets and of course if my child had a fever I would use Tylenol. I was using Tylenol in conjunction with the tablets when his teething was really bad, since I've stopped I've noticed that the tablets do fine on their own.

Never thought about being concerned about it. I don't use Tylenol for teething anyway though. Just for fevers and my son has only had about 3 fevers in his life so far. :)

Yes, I am concerned. I do not give my children tylenol for teething. I use Hyland's teething tablets. They are wonderful and all natural. I try not to use tylenol too much, unless they have a high fever, then I alternate b/w tylenol and motrin. I always read the label correctly to make sure I am giving the proper daily dosage amount, especially now w/ the FDA's concerns regarding liver damage and stomach bleeding.

I would say that Tylenol is safe enough to give your teething son. From what I understand the problems with Tylenol are the results of long-term overuse. Almost everything out there has serious side-effects if you take too much of it for too long. If you give your son the proper dosage while he's teething and then stop when he doesn't need it anymore, you will only be helping your son and yourself. The pain is far, far worse for all involved than the Tylenol could be.

i havent heard anything about tylenol as a pain or fever reducer. i did hear something aout adult stuff. but if used properly there is nothing wrong. i still give my kids tylenol for a fever, but i do prefer motrin over tylenol. i think it works better. but as for the cold meds i never give any of my kids cold meds. i let the cold pass and make them as comfortable as possible. i have seen to many kids that get cold meds at the first sign of a cough. and they get sick alot. i think when you let their body fight off the infection it helps to build the immune system. my older kids never get sick anymore. it is very rare. the only time i have given a cold med is at night if they are coughing alot i give them a cough supresent.
