I recently stopped breast feeding my son (about a month ago) I was wondering how long it'll take for my first period to arrive. I'm curious because we want to try for our 2nd baby in December and i want to make sure that i ovulate before then.

I only breastfeed my baby and I got a period before she was 6 weeks. It sucks and I don't want to get pregnant right away either!

My period started coming every month when he was 2.5 months old...

My period started when Eric was 9 months. I was still nursing 8-9 times a day/ night but he had started giving me a semi consistent 6 hours in the night without nursing so I think that was why it started for me. When he was 1 year we started trying to conceive, we were pregnant by the time he was 16 months and still nursing about 7 times a day/ night.
Everyones really different, there's not much for sure with anyone but try to relax, as stress can keep it away longer. Best of luck!

Every woman is different. I breast fed my son for 12 months and I got my period on and off after breast feeding for 4 months. I actually just read a very intersting article on how to tell when you are ovulating with using an ovulating kit. It has to do with your mucous. Check is out if you get a chance.

There will be changes in your cervical mucus.

The amount of cervical mucus increases as well as the texture.

The quantity and texture change indicates the rising levels of estrogen. When the cervical mucus resembles raw egg whites, woman is generally considered to be at her most fertile.

It is this mucus, resembling raw egg whites, which coats the path that the sperm will take on it’s journey through the uterus, into the fallopian tubes and to your eggs.

My son is 10 months and still BFing, i just got over my 2nd period which was about 6 weeks from the first so they are very irregular, we just bought an ovulation test because we are ttc #3. Thats really the only recomendation i can offer is an ovulation test..oh your ob/gyn might be able to write you a script for a drug that can induce ovulation, mine wont give it to me because im still nursing..but you can always give it a shot!! GOOD LUCK

As others have said, it's completely individual and there is no hard facts on if you stop at this time, your period will return by this time. Also, remember that just because you aren't having a period yet, doesn't mean that you're not ovulating. Some breastfeeding moms assume this and sometimes end up pregnant before they were ready for the next child. As another suggested, start tracking your basal temp and get a few ovulation kits, as it will help pinpoint when you're ovulating. Good luck and have fun trying for the next one!

Jodi is right unfortunately it is really hard to predict if you are/when you ovulate, as each woman is different. You could perhaps purchase an ovulation kit from your local chemist or off ebay to chart your cycle. My son is 15mo bf and my period returned recently- but so far I have only had two and they have been irregular, so my cycle is yet to regulate as well. My hubby and I are going to start ttc #2 in the next couple weeks as well so good luck as well.

Most women ovulate at least once before getting their period. And it completely depends on your body, some women who never breastfed find it takes months to get their cycle going again, other mothers who exclusively breastfed from day one will get their cycles mere months after delivering. Everybody's body is different so it's really impossible to say.
