My daughter will be one one September 22nd and I would like to wean her from the breast around that time. But I am not sure where to begin because she seems to rely on nursing to calm herself and to go to sleep at night. Anyone have any tips?

Lori,
My daughter will not drink from a bottle (not even breast milk). I have tried to give her a sippy with breast milk and she would drink it. Then I was told by a friend to mix in formula and gradually decrease the amount of breast milk in the sippy. Well when I tried that everytime she wouldn't touch it and it spoiled. Now she wont even drink a sippy with just breast milk.

Does she take a pumped breastmilk bottle? Start by giving her that to get her used to a bottle. Then gradually introduce formula. Start off with one formula bottle a day. I usually give it for his second feeding of the day. Then add another bottle every week or so. If she relies on the breast at night before bed make that the last feeding you eliminate. Hopefully that works for you. I'm just starting to wean my son. We are currently still at the 1 bottle a day phase!
