What foods are you avoiding while breastfeeding to prevent gassiness and fussiness in baby?

I really haven't eliminated anything specific out of my diet since only breastfeeding. Baby does well but sometimes he gets a little gassy. I'm wondering what sorts of foods cause this. I'm wondering if it could be some hot peppers that I ate or even dairy products.

The only things I avoided were caffeinated drinks in case they hyped him up, and alcohol too close to feed times in case it passed through. Babies just ARE fussy and gassy. It's more to do with them adjusting to the world outside, learning to feed efficiently and their digestive systems still developing.

I avoid broccoli, cauliflower, spicy foods, cabbage, and caffeine ( but only really in coffee and teas because i love chocolate too much). That's about it. I do however notice a huge difference when i do eat them and he has a tendency not to sleep well if i do just go ahead and give in.

I found that caffeine and chocolate and salads caused more gas in my son than normal. Once I backed off on those things his gas decreased. It's just a matter of what works for you. If your baby gets gas a lot after you nurse just give the gas relief drops before you nurse and that will help him. I did that for my son and it worked a whole lot better than anything else I tried.

None. Because it's actually a myth that certain foods cause gassiness and fussiness. Foods cause gas in you because of the way they're broken down in your gut by bacteria. But those components of the food do not go into your bloodstream and they do not go into your milk.

There are plenty of cultures that eat a lot of spicey foods- and they have no more 'gassy' or 'fussy' babies than cultures that eat a blander diet.

The main causes of gassiness are a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance (oversupply), crying, a poor latch, and an immature gut.

The only thing I have been avoiding is spicy foods and caffeine. I think babies will become gassy sometimes no matter what you eat.
