I find that after my sons 2 week appt his gas really kicked in and though he is not colicy he cries periodically with gas pains. He tends to get it out one way or another...but are there certain foods i should avoid while breastfeeding to help him out??

Check the above links. There are no foods that cause gas. Gas occurs in mom due to the way the food is broken down by bacteria in her gut, but that part of the food does not go to her blood, does not go to her milk, and does not go to baby.

Gassiness in infants is due to other causes: crying, a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance (the main reason of 'colicky' symptoms), a bad latch, and just a plain immature gut.

I just typed a whole big long response--it did not load, so excuse the brevity of this answer...i eliminated EVERYTHING from my diet, nothing helped. I am sure my son just had an immature gut that took a while to get used to digesting.

I have heard that broccoli, cabbage, coffee, chocolate, onions and mince. I drank a herbal tea that was a mixture of fennel and peppermint and it made a huge difference with gas! Drink a couple of cups a day. you can get the tea leaves from the health food store. I know other mums that have tried it and they swear by it also.
