Thanks for all the great info! I was looking at a Medela one and my sister-in-law works at the hospital and mentioned that they have them there also. I really need to check with my insurance to see if would be covered. I didn't even know they might do that!

I rent mine from my hostipital and it is a Ameda Elite and it works awesome. I love it it works so fast. So I recommend talking to your hostpital about renting one instead of buying one

i also agree with medela pump-in-style.....i pumped a couple times a day for 14 months with my first son and carried that thing on a 1.5 hour one-way commute and it held up amazingly well. when i used it with my second son 4 years later, it worked like it was brand new. a GREAT product!

I would have to agree that Medela pump in style is great! I am on child #2 and breastfed the first by only pumping for the first year. The second child latches so I am now only pumping when I am at work - but I am using the same pump and it is still running great!

I have the Ameda Purely Yours pump. I love it. I wanted the Medela, but after talking to a few friends I liked the fact the Ameda was a closed system pump. The Medela is an open system. I will tell you, I also recieved the $100 pump from walmart (has a purple base), it looks and does the exact SAME Thing as the Ameda. But I didn't realize this till after I had bought the Ameda. The walmart one that I had received (it was used when I got it) I thought didn't work for me, but come to find out the membranes were broken, I just needed to replace them.

I could see that Peggy, I haven't had that problem with my Medela, but I could see how someone might. Whatever you decide Amanda you should definately check with your insurance company. Good Luck
Why should you check with your insurance? Do they cover these? If so, I wish I knew this 8 months ago!

I have used a Ameda with my first baby, a manual with my second and third and I recieved a gift the medula swing with my fourth baby and it was by far my favorite. I was able to pump more milk faster and with the small size it was easy to take with me. Hope this helps you.

I have both the Medella "Harmony" (which is a manual pump) as well as the Medella "Swing" (electric pump) I LOVE them both. They both have the "let down" feature and the suction is continuous and strong. The Swing you can set the amount of suction and speed that you require as well. I use the Swing on a daily basis and the manual when I am at work ,we have small quarters and is more quiet and discreate then an electric pump. ( I am a paramedic and work in a smaller station) I have rented the Medella "Symphony" which is a double pump and loved that as well, the equivalent to that one that you can buy (if you want to double pump) is the Medella "Freestyle" and the "Pump in Style"

Well i have tried electric pumps but never could get all of the milk out so i tried avents manual pump and it works awesome. i get all of my milk out every time and its very easy to use and small enough to fit into a purse. With the electric pumps i could only get out about half of my milk now i get out 7oz everytime and its worth me pumping it myself. I love it.

Medela makes great pumps. I'm nursing #3 and have used a Medela hand pump/electric pump with all three.

I personally really love my Ameda Purely Yours double electric pump. I haven't used the Medela brand, BUT I love how the Ameda's have a little membrane thing that prevents milk from ever going into the tubes. I have heard that can be a problem with Medela pumps. My friend has a Medela, and she says she likes how the Ameda pump is a separate component from the bag, whereas her pump is part of the tote. She can't ever take it out I guess.

Medela pump-in-stlye is awesome. I have also heard that your insurance will cover most of the cost so check it out.
