On another forum I found this out found that boots don't give loyalty points on formula milk and apparently a lot of places like tesco dont either. What are your views on this? I have seen several petitions to try and stop this.

I think its good to try and promote breastfeeding but this has caused outrage among non breastfeeding mothers.

perhaps this is old news I only just heard of it.

Found this to when I was googling

* The Infant Formula and Follow-on Formula Regulations 1995

* Restrictions on promotion of infant formulae

19. No person shall at any place where any infant formula is sold by retail—

o (a) advertise any infant formula;

o (b) make any special display of an infant formula designed to promote sales;

o (c) give away—

+ (i) any infant formula as a free sample; or

+ (ii) any coupon which may be used to purchase an infant formula at a discount;

o (d) promote the sale of an infant formula by means of premiums, special sales, loss- leaders or tie-in sales; or

o (e) undertake any other promotional activity to induce the sale of an infant formula.

yeah I can see how that comes across, its not raising awareness on breastfeeding just angering people who cant breastfeed. Surely they can think of some other way like information out there not making people pay for not being able to breastfeed bigger.

They should promote breastfeeding of course but not this way. But apart from what I said about getting information out I cant think of anything else.

That to me is not promoting breastfeeding, that is bashing formula - there is a difference.

I even get coupons and they are suppose to be illegal? maybe just for supermarket prices but I get them in the post and I bf?? this is the first I heard of this after seeing formula mums complain they get penalized for not breastfeeding. Wanted to know what everyone else thought of the government here trying to promote breastfeeding this way.

This is not the case in the U.S. If I go to Target and buy baby wipes (or anything baby) the machine spits out a $5 off coupon for formula. I tell them to keep it because my milk is free...

boots is a chemist and I found out all places do it according to the law. Points are where you buy stuff and get points and later on when your points are added on a card you get money back to spend what you like in store. Basically shops will not give anything like points or offers off milk, or are not suppose to anyway but I have seen tesco advertise in my favourites (on line shopping ) for formula milk which I have never bought yet they show me it on offer.
