When did you get your period again?

My son is just turning 8 weeks old and I guess I just got my period a couple days ago...it's not normal and heavy, but it's there! UGH and I just stopped postpartum bleeding at 6 weeks -I'm not ready for it! :( lol I did supplement with formula for a few days because I needed a break but I was still pumping and breastfeeding a few times a day...but guess that was enough shortage to set it off....or I'm just that unlucky....boo!

I never missed my period when i was breastfeeding. every one is different. breast feeding helps you lose weight also. i was 180 at the end of my pregnacy and after birth 65 then my check up i was almost 15 pound lighter.

Got my period back when my little boy was 3 and half months. I exclusively breastfed him too. Everyone woman is soooo different. There is no time or amount of months that you will get your period back. i do know that when I did stop feeding him somuch at night, that's when I got period back. Though had some light bleeding the few weeks back, thinking it was my 2nd period but then it went.....not sure what that was all about? Anyone know? Was it another period? or was it just ???hmm not sure...

With my daughter,now 6,I got AF back on her 1st birthday and with my son,turning 2 on Saturday,was only 8 months old when AF came back.

Probably different for every mother. Would all depend on the amount of feeding keeping up the hormones to supress the triggering of getting AF back again.

Don't worry,enjoy the break while you can!

Both mine fully breastfeed too. DD until she self weaned @ 19 months,and DS has still been comfort feeding once a day..but it's been a few days now with nothing..so might be weaning/stopping...:0(

with my first child it was past 1 year, with baby #2 it came at around 9 months, nursing to a little past year with both.
everyone is different. it's smart to take preggo tests, just in case. :)

I'm still nursingmy 10mounth old :) .... abuot 3 weeks ago I got my first period. It lasted 1 week to the day. It was a light one too.... I started to take the low dose of birth control when he was 8 weeks old and I bleed really bad for a week..... Not sure if now I will have a period all the time..... I spot a few days ago so we shall see......

I was one of the unlucky ones I think. My periods started again EXACTLY one month after giving birth to my son and are as regular as they were before. I was really hoping they wouldn't return until I had finished breastfeeding. He was weaned at 5 months.

I've also been meaning to post this question. I'm a first time mother and still BF my 15 month old and still no period....thanks to all the ladies who posted their replies, really helped set my mind at ease and yes I've also run out to do the odd pregnancy test - LOL. So I'm guessing it'll only come back once I stop BF :) I'm in no rush for no. 2 so it's all good :)

Congrads on your story with BF your angel, we should publish it in the la lech league magazine and also tell expectant and new moms. What an inspiring story!

I didn't have one at all while breastfeeding my son for 8mths. It started about a month after I stoped nursing. The doctor told me it's rare for women to have a period while nursing because of the uterine contractions that occur while nursing. Although I did freak out a few times and run and by a pergnancy test.

Hey my nursing story is about the same as yours! My son was born with persistant pulminary hypertension. Had to be put on ECHMO wich took sugery... he was fed by tubes for the first month when we tried to nurse but since he took a bottle easier, and we wanted to take him home, he got bottles/tube feedings till he was eating enough orally... then I started trying to teach him to nurse with the help of an occupational therapist. He was nearly 2 months old before he finally got the hang of it. Our freezer was filled with nothing but breastmilk.



As for period. My son is nearly five so it's a fuzzy memory- I think it was around his first birthday. After my second baby it was before her first birthday- but she also weaned a bit earlier than he did. Such a blessing to have a long time without a period! but I too kept pregnancy tests on hand for those times when I started to worry.

I am at 8 months with no period yet!! Yea!! My little girl also had open heart surgery when she was 12 weeks old and is also a champion nurser!! She didn't use a feeding tube, but I was still SO proud of her for breastfeeding after all that! Girls are awesome!! Congrats on your determination!

Congrats on your baby girl and going thru that difficult time! And how wonderful that you are still able to breastfeed! :) I do want to comment. My son will be four months old and I still have not had my period. Did you breast feed with both of your children? I didn't read the other posts if you already answered this. I hear that its hard to retain water for a menstral period when you are breastfeeding because any extra water intake goes to milk. Don't know if this is factual or not. But I heard it from a friend.

One of my babies was bottle fed int he nursery and one had the tube...I finally got tired of pumping for bottles and both of them are still nursing at almost 4 months old now..I think nipple confusion is something that can be over come with alot of patience and determination..

With my oldest son I didn't get my period again until he was nearly a year..and with my next one I started right away..I think every time is different just like every pregnancy and every baby.

With my first child I went 19 months before I had my period again, and it was wonderful! My second child is 13 months now and I haven't had one yet, thank goodness!

im nursing and my daughter, Hayden is 7 months old, and i still havent had a period. lol i did the same thing.. took 2 pregnancy tests. but the doc said everyone is different and sometimes, even if youve stopped nursing, it takes a while for your body to get back into the swing of it all.

I love your story, not just other moms but hospital staff should all be aware of this! well done.
I also did the pregnancy test, and checks with my doctor but i guess it was just my body and my son's great appetite LOL. I was 14months before my periods started again.

Ive had 2 peroids in a little over 2 years. I breastfed my son for 6 weeks and had to stop, but I didnt get a peroid. Then i got pregnant again with my daughter when he was 4 months old. Shes now 14 months old and I am still Bfing her but like I said, have had my peroid the past two months... Although its been nothing like b4 I had kids... I used to get REALLY bad cramps and it went for at least 7 days.. now only light cramping and only 4 days :S is that normal?

My daughter will be 1 on the first of August and I still have not gotten my period. And good for you for sticking out during those two months. I had to pump for ten days until my son got out of the NICU. I know it can be rough but if you put your mind to it then it can be done. Wish more woman would be willing to do it too.

I have been taking low dose POP since baby was 8 weeks. I got my period at about 11 months when I returned to work full-time and was not nursing as often. I am still BF and she is almost 15 months.

I went on Depo after having my girls, so didn't get a period for 3.5 years.



After having my son it came back at 2.5 months and has been regular ever since. He was exclusively nursed on demand and nursed ALL the time. Still does at almost 16 months....

as for the period. i had questions about it too, i asked my mother about it and she told me that with her first child she had her periods almost the whole time she breastfed my brother, but then with me and then my sister she didn't have one at all the entire time she breastfed us, we were about 15 months when we weaned.
