when should I let my child sleep over night somewhere?

My daughter is 3.5 and she loves staying at her grandparents. She had her first overnight when she was over 2 and could understand that I'll be back for her the next day, and all that stuff. My "baby" just turned one and is still nursing, so she won't be joining her sister until we are totally done with "the boob". But once that happens, she'll probably be fantastic staying over with her sister. I'd bet that by the time she's 2 she'll have stayed overnight without me.

My daughter started talking really good at 1 1/2 she told me she wanted to go to my in laws (mema and popa) i told her that it meant she couldn't come home until the morning and she had to sleep all night at mema's. She kept telling me ok and sounding annoyed. So I would say when you are comfortable knowing the they understand and want to do it.

My children are 5, 3 and 7 mo. This December, my husband and I will be taking a short trip and the older two will have thier first overnighter at Grandma and Grampa's.



When the other two were still babies, My husband would express a desire to leave them overnight at my parents, but I couldn't stand to be away from them that long. I think he hasn't suggested leaving the baby this time because she absolutly won't take a bottle.



I think it depends on each family. Nursing definitely gives a pretty good guidline though. When they are weaned and hopefully sleeping through the night, they are old enough to stay at a very familiar persons house (like grandparents they see regularily)

my son nurses throughout the night at 11 months old, so it would be very hard to let him stay overnight somewhere without me. i'm planning on waiting until he is around 3 or 4 to let him stay with my parents alone

My son didn't spend the night with his Grandparents until he was 2 1/2 years old. My daughter is 2 and still hasn't spent a night away from me. I believe that it's completely up to you on when you feel like your child is developmentally ready to be away from you.

I would not personally consider it until my daughter had not been nursing during the night for quite some time, and had made the decision herself to stay over night. Say, four years at a minimum.

I didn't let mine stay out until they were able to sleep the night through and was not breast feeding anymore. However it wasn't til my son was 18 months old. I can only suggest that you have to feel confortable with it yourself. If you are confident and know that everything will be fine then you will be ready. Just follow your gut.

When you are comfortable. My son is 11 months and no longer breastfed and I still won't let him sleep anywhere I am not ok with it, when you feel comfortable then do it. It will be years and years before that happens with me
