Has anyone else had trouble losing weight? Everyone says that breastfeeding helps you to lose weight faster but I haven't been losing weight at all! My pre-pregnancy weight was around 125. When I got back from the hospital I was at 150. One week after being home from the hospital I dropped to 140. Now my baby is almost 3 months and I actually gained back 5 lbs and I'm at 145!

I didn't expect that I would lose all the weight right away but I didn't expect to start gaining weight! I'm eating like I normally eat and I'm breastfeeding exclusively. I produce a lot of milk and my baby is growing super fast--she's gone from the 20th percentile when she was born to the 80th percentile. So what is going on? I'm mostly frustrated because I can't fit into any of my old clothes and we can't afford to buy new clothes right now so I have like two outfits I can wear. It's just frustrating... Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I'm having the same problem. I have not lost any weight from the moment I returned from the hospital and it has been 3 months. I breastfeed exclusively and even work out. I don't know how so many women lose weight and I haven't even lost one pound.

I know exactly how u feel. Ive gained 15more lbs since having my baby. I was 168 before my baby n 215 when I had her and dropped ten lbs fast n now im gaining weight but everyone tells me its from stress. But the stress comes from being frustrated that im not losing weight n I refuse to buy new clothes.
So I do feel your pain.
Its upsetting. But all u can do is continue to exercise but I think when I stop breastfeeding it'll come off fast..at least thats what I hope. My baby is three months old too.

I totally understand! I have been working out like crazy, eating right but like you exclusively breastfeeding and I haven't lost a pound in 2 months. It is frustrating because I also have very few clothes. This is my third child and my only encouragement is that it should drop off after you wean or as you nurse less, like when baby starts solids. It is worth a little extra weight to be able to nurse.

Have to agree on the hungry thing - I am alway hungry!!

I try and make sure that I am eating healthy options most of the tine: fresh fruit, low-fat or fat free options and low GL foods.

I also exercise where possible - family walks, gym pilates at home etc.

drink enough and try be stricter on what you eat - not so much the quantity, but make sure you are actually hungry when you reach for something to eat...

After my first child I lost most of the baby weight and I only breast feed for 4 months. With my second child who is 14 months old now I breast feed for 9 months and haven't lost any weight, and probably have gained more. I am not a doctor, but I think each time when you are pregnant that your body changes the way process food and when you have the baby your body stays that way. It's like starting all over trying to figure out what will help take the weight off because what worked before will not work the same now.

Yep same boat here too. Most of my baby weight seemed to come off fast, right after delivery. But I have 5 pounds that just hanging on for dear life! :P 27 weeks post-partum! But I guess I can't complain too much because like all the other moms here, I'm hungry and eating all the time, it seems!

Thanks! It's good to know that I'm not the only one having this issue! Everything I have read says that you lose more weight breastfeeding so I didn't know what was going on. I guess I just have to stick to sweats for now!

I am breastfeed my fourth baby and I have never been able to lose weight when I BF. I love it afterwards.

I have had the same issue, I lost 25 pounds strasight away and nothing since the third week after having the baby, and she is now 4 months old. it is so frustrating, I am stuck with the last 10 pounds... glad I am not the only one out here!

It takes awhile; some women report that they do not lose any weight until they return to fertility.

I haven't lost any weight - in fact, I've gained - because breastfeeding makes me really, really, really hungry. Hungrier than when I was pregnant!

I am totally in the same boat! Except I gained 50 pounds (yikes!) while pregnant. I lost 25 of that immediately, and then I too gained 5 of it back. My husband is convinced that it's my breast and the milk that is the 5 pounds, I however, am not. I am two sizes bigger than I was prepregnancy, it's depressing. So I feel your pain.

i have the same thing about retaining weight cause of famine. i have that problem becuase before i was pregnant i was anorexic (not too bad tho) and now my body is retaining the extra weight. i have nothing to wear but sweats and some pregnancey clothes. so i wear that and i am slowly buying some new clothes when i found a good clearance sale so its not expensive. and right now since its the holiday season there should be some really good sales going on. good luck with it

I've heard 9 months on, 9 months off. It took awhile to gain the pregnancy weight and it will take awhile to lose it in a healthy manner. Some bf moms get too thin and others keep extra padding in case of famine, usually about 10 pounds stored around the tummy and hips--just enough to keep your old pants from fitting! Frustrating, but worth it in the long run.

You know I have the same problem, but looking at the amount of food I'm eating I know why. BF makes you hungrier, because you need extra calories to do it. Your body just wants to make up for the extra expenditure, it doesn't know you want it to get thinner. So just watch your intake and make sure you drink enough, I always get so hungry when I'm actually thirsty!
