My daughter is almost 9 months old and I am still breastfeeding her and at 12 months my husband and I are hoping to get pregnant again. However I only had my period twice and they were sporatic. My one friend told me she had to stop breastfeeding in order to get pregnant but I really really really dont' want to stop.
I know I can still get pregnant but will it take a long time of TTC before it actually happens?

My dtr was EBF however i got my period back after 3 months!! Needless to say we didn't have that problem and have been able to conceive baby 2!!

If you've already had at least one period, that's an indication that your fertility is probably back. I wouldn't be concerned about it. I wouldn't wean just because you're TTC. As long as you're getting periods, your chances are just as good as a non-nursing woman of getting pregnant. You could try charting to find out your ovulation pattern.

Hi there,
My periods came back regular at around 7mths when my daughter was eating more solids and sleeping during the night....yup we were bf less.
Not sure how many feeds you are doing and I know everyone is different, but if you are still doing a lot of feeds, then maybe drop one and see what happens, then if nothing happens drop two feeds...maybe you will get a nice compromise.

I have seen many women who have relied on BF to not get pregnant and have ended up pregnant.
It is different for every woman . Using ovulation tests might be your best bet. Starting now would give you a good 3 months to track things and see what is going on . I would also start charting different hormonal changes if you are not having full cycles every month . Anything from bloating , moodiness , tenderness in your breast , blemishes , etc . see if there is a common set of changes and compare it with the tests .
I have seen where many women continue to nurse while pregnant. Good luck and I wish you the best!!!!

It depends, some women will have periods and not be ovulating, some will ovulate without periods. You won't know until you try or if you use ovulation prediction kits based on hormones, not temps. Since you have had periods, you are probably fertile again, but maybe just not as often. I have known many mothers who have conceived while nursing a baby of about a year old. I say nurse till you are ready to wean.
