Wondering when to introduce pablum

[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

Hi there,
My son will be three months on old on Jan 15, he has been 100% breastfeed since birth. I am wondering when I should start introducing him to pablum.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Jeremy had his 3 month check up today. I asked the doc about when to introduce new foods. She also recommended waiting until 6 months.

Actually, I've read cereal is not the best first food for babies as it can take up to 36 months for the digestive system to be fully prepared to process this type of food. I would suggest waiting until your son is at least 6 months old and introduce a pureed fruit or vegetable. My daughter is 7 months and has been exclusively breastfed her entire life as well. I wanted to wait a little while after the recommended 6 month point to make sure her digestive system is ready for solids. But in reality, from a caloric standpoint, your little one doesn't really need solids until about the 12 month point. Up until then, it's suggested just for practice. Check this link for a more thorough explanation in support of delaying solids:

Hope it helps!
