Would like to try to re-lactate - don't know if it's possible

As much as I wanted to breastfeed, it just didn't work out for me. After starving my baby the first day in the hospital, she was given a bottle. Afterwards, all attempts to breastfeed failed - my daughter refused to latch on. She would actually cry the closer I got her to the breast! I pumped for 6 weeks - never getting more than 2 oz a day - this is while taking Mother's Milk Plus and Reglan. I wean at 6 weeks, then at 4 months I tried to re-lactate. For the first time my breasts filled up but my daughter still refused to latch on. I couldn't get anything from pumping so after a month or so, I gave up. She is 8 months now and I would like to try one final time to provide her with breastmilk. My question is, at 8 months am I crazy for trying this? Any advice on getting an 8 month old to latch on? I so want this to work - I have felt so bad that I have not been able to EBF her!

Thanks for all the encouragement! I am starting Mothers Milk Plus on Monday is it should arrive in the mail tomorrow! Where I live, there isn't a LLL meeting but am looking for one in a nearby city.

I highly recommend the nipple shield.  My daughter will not eat without it, and good thing I used it because she has thrush now, and the nipple shield is a barrier so that I do not get it and I can keep EBF her.  That is awesome that you want to try to BF her again!  Keep trying.  If your supply goes down, I recommend fenugreek and goat's rue (both herbal) - alone they did not increase my supply, but together she is now able to EBF her, whereas before I had to supplement.

how great of you to want to try one last time!

have you tried a nipple shield? perhaps that will help it seem more like a bottle to her? also, have you tried tricking her into nursing? hold her in a nursing position (football or cradle), and start off with her having her bottle. maybe express some milk onto your nipple and sneak it into your daugthers mouth. i dont know if this will work but perhaps it's worth a try?

again, good luck!
