Hi all, I''m new to this board.
I just had my first c-section on April 8th, 2009. (my son was a vaginal birth) We found out during our weekly u/s that my daughter turned breech somewhere between 34-35weeks. I have weekly u/s from 34weeks on due to my Gestational Diabetes and wanting to watch the size(I also loose alot of weight and this time around I was on a new pill for my GD and they wanted to make sure everything was fine, plus with GD you have to watch fluid levels). We were given the option of trying a version at 37weeks, but after my husband and I thought and talked about it we decided not to. We were scheduled for the section at 38weeks 3days(Long story with my husbands work issues and me having to be home with my 40+lb son alone). Due to the GD my OB made me get some steroid shots(I later found out that they generally dont work after 36weeks anyway) and also because the OB that delivered doesn't like doing sections prior to 39weeks but the OB that scheduled the section(same one that delivered my son) will do them after 38weeks. I see 3 different OB's at my office so its confusing, their purpose in that is because they dont know who will be on call the day you deliver if you go naturally.

The morning of the section my OB did a quick u/s to see if she was still breech, and she was. He again gave us the option to try to do a version but couldn't guarantee it would work because of her positioning. We went ahead and did the c-section. We found out later that she was footling breech so turning her would have been harder. (from what I've read online footling is one of the worst breech positions). It was our decision and I think it worked best but even though I've had 1 vaginal delivery our hospital doesn't do VBAC's so if we decide to have any more and still live in this area I would be basically forced into another c-section.

My daughter was born 4/8/09 weighing 6lbs 13oz and 19.5inches long, breathing just fine. We got released just after 48hrs from the c-section, they wanted me to have a bowel movement first thats why it was delayed a few hours. (She was born at 38weeks 3days my son was born at 39weeks 6days and weighed 7lbs 9oz and 21in so if she would have made it that far I think they would have been almost exactly the same size).

We had a few issues after we got home with breastfeeding, and latch. Both my kids had latch issues but my son learned fast with the nipple shield. My daughter how ever didn't, she ended up loosing 1.5lbs, dropping down to 5lbs 9oz at 2weeks old. for 2.5weeks we had to supplement with pumped milk, and at 4.5weeks she was up to 7lbs 2oz, no more supplementing!! We just had her 2mo check on June 12th and shes now at 10lbs 2oz!! Almost a 5lb weight gain in 6.5weeks, the doctors were very happy, and she is now back to being 100% breast fed.
