How long will I need these pain meds?

i had a planned c-section. I took my pain meds GLADLY until they all ran out. I literally didnt feel pain at all from the time my water broke until the day my pain meds were gone. After my c-section, the nurses at the hospital explained to me how to keep on a regular schedule so that the pain doesnt pop up all of a sudden. they told me if i let the pain meds wear off, the pain would be so bad i wouldnt be able to manage it once it set in and i wouldn't heal properly. I also was determined not to let my c/s slow me down, so as soon as the nurses let me, i got up and walked around my room, the corridor, wherever they would let me. When i got home, i didnt overdo it, i just made sure to do whatever i could to stay somewhat active. I literally felt like i hadnt had surgery at all about 3 days after my c/s. hope that helps.

i had my emergency c section 10 days ago and im still in a good amount of pain especially since im the one whos taking care of my son by myself basically getting up and down up and down and i used to have a drug problem, but i have my mom holding onto my percocet and i ask for one every six or so hours or whenever i feel a good amount of pain and now shes saying i should be out of pain cuz its been over a week......but i dont care much for what the pill is, just the fact that it helps with the pain cuz the ib profen doesnt seem to help with the incisioin pain. but its good to see that a lot of other women are in pain longer than a week.....

i stopped when i left the hospital because they were preventing my breast milk from coming in.. so i just put up with the pain and did a lot of laying down.

The only thing my doctor gave me was percocet and I only had enough for 10 days after I went home. I was still in a little bit of pain after that but my doctor told me to just take Tylenol... kind of wished she would have given me something else because I hurt for a good 2 weeks or more after that. But, no pain-no gain.... I guess...lol

Wow, well I was in pain for weeks after my c-section but was released from hospital on Tylenol. I have to say I am somewhat envious that you ladies received decent pain control. I would say take them as long as you need them for, but if you can manage with a milder pain medication, take that route first.

I'm in the uk so don't recognise the drugs ur talking about but I was on codine for 4 wks after my section.....take it easy and let ur body heal, it dosn't make any difference how long u have to take them for...no one is going to give u £1,000,000for being a hard nut and not taking them...enjoy ur little babay as they are notlittle forlong. take care xxxx

I took percocet every four hours for the first week I was home, and then after that I just took my ibuprofen 600 every 6 hours for about 2 weeks after that. I had no lingering pain after that unless I moved the wrong way and stretched my incision. But take pills until you are comfortable. It is hard enough to care for a newborn without being in pain to make things harder!

I took home some hydrocodone and ibuprofen and took it religiously until i felt better. It took me about two weeks to be almost pain free wtih my second but about 4 with my daughter which was a emergency c-section. I feel it depends on if it was planned or emergnecy.

take them till you don't have pain. In the words of the pain management personnel at my hospital: Who cares how long it takes, is the pain worth it? Enjoy the meds so you can enjoy your baby.

I just had my second c section and was on the strong stuff for a week then on paracetemol and iboprofen when needed. The OB said I had adhesions (bits and pieces sticking together on the inside when they heal) from my 1st c section and told me to take it easy with this one. I figured if I could feel some pain I would know when I was doing too much. Hope this helps:)

Iam taking it every four hours like it says Im on percocet every four hours and 800mg ibprofin every 8 hours...but after tomorrow I'll be out of the percocet and Im afraid that Im going ot be in some serious pain

I took the vicodin they gave me for nearly 2 weeks after my section and then I continued on with 800mg of ibpropen till my son was close to a month old. My first c section it seemed like I went off the meds sooner but each one is different. I was in pain for a good 3 weeks and then it started slowly subsiding until I felt somewhat "normal" at around 5 weeks.

I just had my son on the 3rd and I'm still taking the medication. Just make sure you take it on the hour and never skip a pill. this is my 2nd C- Section and I have learned to take the pills tell they are all gone. Hope that helps.
