They are very accurate, they are exactly the same as the ones the doctors use. You can't get a false positive from a urine test, it is only possible to get a false negative. YOU ARE PREGNANT. CONGRATULATIONS!
I am SO irritated by the inaccurate information that is doled out on this website. If you aren't sure of something, don't say it. An at home pregnancy test is NOT the same as the one at your doctor's office. And you CAN get a false positive from a pregnancy test. They're rare, but it happens.
I'm sorry you think the information I have "dolled out" is incorrect. I ONLY ever post information I believe to be 100% accurate and your comment has greatly offended me.
I was told this by 2 different doctors and have read it in a medical journal, if these sources were wrong then I apologise. I am fully informed of how urinary pregnancy tests work, as I expect you must be too, but you clearly believe I am wrong, can you elaborate then? What makes you think you are right? Dont jump on someone elses post without explaining to them where they went wrong.
Home pregnancy tests only measure a fraction of HcG in a woman's urine. The test at the doctor's is able to pick out more. Why do you think a test at the doctor's office will come up positive when a home pregnancy test was negative? As well, the doctor will combine a urine test with a blood test, which makes it more accurate even more.
And as for "you can't get a false positive from a home pregnancy test". It says right on the box. I'm sorry if you were offended. It wasn't a personal attack on you. It was me being extremely upset at the erroneous information that is constantly handed out.
Hi Krista,
Thank you responding. I recently read that home prenancy tests have been improved and those on the market in the last few years are now just as "powerful" (was the word the article used) at detecting HcG; and that the ones being boxed and distributed for retail sale are now manufactured by the same people and made with all of the same internal components of those used distributed for bulk medical use. But I will not argue the point because you can't believe everything you read, even in a respected journal, so its possible I'm wrong.
It was also my understanding that the level of HcG that must be present in order for a urine test (home or otherwise) to show positive was quite high and that is why I thought you could not get a false positive. What it says on the box I thought was a legal disclaimer to account for the fact that most people do not understand what 99.9% accuaracy means in a statistical sense (that there is no such thing as 100% accuaracy when all variables are not under the testing controls), rather than explain this, they put it in simple terms and say that it is not a be-all end-all test.
I did take your comment personally but I'm over it now that you explained. Thank you for responding and I'm actually glad to see that you are informed and knew what you are talking about. I agree that some of the information on here is scarily inaccuarate, but I guess I just wanted everyone to know that I don't make uninformed comments.

Although it can happen, it is more unlikely to get a false positive than a false negative. If you have had 6 positive tests, then they are definately picking up on the pregnancy hormone. A pregnancy test can still come back positive for up to 12 weeks after giving birth because the pregnancy hormone can still be present. If your second child is more than 3 months old then it's pretty likely that you will be welcoming a third. Make an appointment with your OB to be sure. Good luck!

You took 6 tests and you're wondering if ALL 6 could be wrong? Do you not WANT another child? Because.....I took 2 tests and that was enough for me.
And false positives very rarely happen. False negatives happen frequently. A home pregnancy test is accurate to 99% if taken the day (or after) your expected period.
