That all depends on what you are calling discipline.



There is spanking and then there is beating the crap out of a child with a pot spoon (belt, guava whip etc.), the latter I would consider child abuse.



There is time out in your room with no toys or television and there kneeling on a grater in the sun hold two bricks over your head, the latter I would consider child abuse.



There is telling a child that they will not have recess for the week for forgetting a history book at home and there is making them stand in the noon day sun with their arms straight up over their heads for 1 hour, the latter is child abuse (and actually happened to my classmates and I at the hands of our history teacher, I got heatstroke).

I somewhat agree with this question since i myself got some beating. It did not teach me anything more than to hate the person.but on the other hand i think kids need strong guidance to stir them in the right direction.
