I'm just wondering where the Catholic church stands on this issue. Any info or help would be greately appreciated.

I looked into this myself, very expensive, but we worried that when they 'bank' the cord blood that so called 'extras' could be sent and used to anyone anywhere for anything (various reseach endeavors) and no one would give us a guarantee that I wasn't possibly contributing to less-than-moral endeavors. I really wanted to be able to do this, for my child and/or anyone else. But since the cord blood banking companies do not all share my moral beliefs I'm waiting until they will give me a guarantee.

You are not taking the life of a child to get it. We also thought about it but it is very expensive to store it and it only last for so long.

it promotes the preservation of life. ITS a GOOD THING. :) The cord blood is from your own baby vs. say, an aborted fetus. Im not sure you should wait for an official stance from the vatican. Are they even up to snuff on this new technology? Might be a while, is all im saying. IF you have the chance to bank the cord blood...by all means dont miss the boat!

I can't imagine why The Church would have a problem with cord blood banking. We wanted to but couldn't afford it. We donated it instead and it saved the life of the mother of 3.
