My name is Sarah, and I have been a celiac for 6 years. I have two boys, ages 8 and 2 that do not have the disease yet. I may have been born with the genes for this disease, but showed no signs or symptoms until after giving birth to my first son. My reactions include GI and severe allergic reactions. I have been hospitalized a few times, I swell up like a balloon and my throat closes. I don't know very many who are not able to touch gluten. I have to carry an epi pen at all times. Celiac disease is different for everybody. I am hoping that my boys will never contract the disease, but there is a 1 in 10 chance they will. I would love to hear any words of wisdom from anyone with this disease that affects so many now.

Kristy! Thank you for the bread recipe. I think that is my biggest challenge :( Not having any bread is tough, especially when you ate it for the first 35 years of your life. :(

I hope everyone is doing well, and getting better everyday!!!

I have been gluten free for almost a year and my daughter is gluten free too, since she showed signs of intolerance. I think she has it and since its just as easy to feed her what I am eating she will eat gluten free until she is old enough to tell me how it makes her feel when she eats it. I am feeling better than ever before but still have my bad days, or weeks. I didn't resume mentruating after I had my daughter 19 months ago and I am trying to work on that as I would really like to have another baby. I am still underweight. I am having the scope done on friday and I am so scared to have it. I told the doctor I would not be eating gluten before hand but she still wants me to have it. My blood test numbers were through the roof though so even if the scope shows that I'm healed she is still giving me the official diagnosis. I have a fear of vomiting so having this disease is quite tough for me as I get lots of nausea. Its also why I am afraid of the scope. I have a great bread recipe that I use. http://www.thebakingbeauties.com/2009/02...

I mix all the dry ingrediants (not the sugar) into bags and have like 10 almost made breads in one shot. Then I just add the wet stuff and let it rise. Its a great recipe with good fiber.

My name is Casie, and I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease almost a year ago, two weeks before finding out I was pregnant (stressful month to say the least!). I had been dealing with GI symptoms for about 6 months prior to being diagnosed. It runs in my family - my great grandfather was diagosed with it in his 80's 2-3 years ago, and my mom just recently found out she had it 2 months ago, after spending 2 weeks with me after my son was born and following my diet. Luckily, I don't have it too severely. I have been able to eat regular oats with no issues (just introduced them this month) and I haven't noticed any big symptoms with small doses that I've eaten by accident in the past. I am a vegetarian for the most part (sometimes cheat while eating out due to lack of options) and currently also eating milk and soy free because my 2 month old has a milk and soy protein intolerance. It hasn't always been easy finding stuff to eat, but with some creativity and my love for cooking and trying out new recipes, we've been able to eat pretty good! Its great to have groups that join together and offer support, since its such a confusing and overwhelming thing to deal with on your own!

My name is Melissa, I have been a celiac since Feb 2007. I have a 7 yr old girl and 3 yr old boy. My son was tested at 2 because he had other blood work done, Thank Gosh he was negative they recomended retesting at 6 or so. My daughter has never been tested i have a hard time letting them draw blood if its not necessary. I have had symptoms all my life but just thought i had a weak belly. Did bloodwork that feb 2 find out if i had a virus or something and doc had a idea well she was right, bloodwork was bad and i had a scope that was totally possitive. Now we found out my father has it but not as bad, that didnt make sence 2 me at all. i take b12 shots and additional script folic acid and it helps me feel alot better. Oddly i was a bread person bigtime, i went on the special diet and well if i opps, boy am i sick. worse now that i dont eat the stuff than when i was. I dont think u ever get used 2 this?
