its great to know we aren't the only ones with so much time invested in this. Our daughter turns 6 next week. This is her first year and she loves it so much. At first we were having practice 4 nights a week and a game on Sat. morning. Now we are down to just 3 nights a week. Its been pretty hard on us this year because I am at the end of a rough pregnancy. Things were great when she started, but a few weeks in my husband was having to take her to practice half the time, and I had to beg my doctor to let me go to her games. Its been a huge stress on us during this time, but its so worth it to see our daughter meeting other great girls and having the time of her life.

My 7 year old is in her second year at flag level. Next year she'll be pre-clinic. They are down to one practice a week every Thursday now and her first game is next weekend. In July she attended the mandatory cheer camp for 4 days which was taught by a professional cheer team. She is a flyer too because she is so petite! And I liked the dance song for this year, Walking on Sunshine re-recorded by Aly & AJ. The girls get to participate in the St. Patrick's Day parade if they were in the previous fall program along with the junior football players. I love what they do for the girls. Some things could be better but it's a great sport for girls of all ages, one that definitely requires focus and contentration, and most of all team spirit.

This is our first year and my 8 yr old has practice 4 nights a week for 2 hrs each night. My youngest is in flag cheerleading and they practice 3 nights....it's really thrown me for a loop...just too much time to commit. We'll do it again next year BUT only if they're really, really into it.

I completely agree. I was a cheerleader growing up since pop warner, and I mydaughter is a cheerleader now, and loves flying. I do have to saw though, it is a full timme job being a cheer mom, or cheer dad. Whenever her daddys home, he actually helps her with her stunts, and I help her too. We love doing it as much as possible, and I coach the high school cheerleading team from my old high school, so I know it's a full time job, being both a mom, and a coach for cheerleading. However, in my opinion, it's sooooo worth it.

I have to say, I'm quite relieved I'm not in the States or else I'd be as busy and tired as you all are! My daughter trains Fridays and Saturdays, total of 6 hours per week and we only have competitions here, no field cheer, which makes things easier. Plus cheerleading still isn't huge in Western Australia, there are only a handful of clubs so there isn't much competition. But Tahli is such a cheerleader, she would do it more often if she could! I would just be exhausted trying to get her to training after working all day!

I know what you mean!!!  We drive 45 mins 1 way to practice 2 times a week, and then there is tumbling 2-3 days a week there, and then they have a stunts and jumps class, we are there 5 days a week for practices and classes, and then there is the Competitions, saying nothing about the traveling!!  My daughter is currently one of the little ones on her team, also, and is a flyer, too.  I see them throw her into the air and sometimes, I admit I have to look away, I get so nervous when it is thier time to go on .....

My daughter is also a flyer. I'm with you ladies on having a break in cheer! My girls both compete and it's a full time job! My youngest cheers 5 nights a week! Sometimes I think it's crazy but she loves it so what more is there to say?

My daughter is a comp cheerleader and we are at the gym 4 days a week with sometimes 4 yr practices. She loves it and now since she is a teen, she is able to be on several squads at a time and it keeps both of us very busy and out of trouble. lol. My daughter would be at the gym 7 days a week if I would let her so I believe that this is good for her. She is a strong base and her flyers appreciate all the time she spends in the gym. Good luck to all of you this cheer season!

Just returned from an early morning competition . Thank god it was a home comp-no traveling . But tomorrow -Sunday-will be another early meet and we will have to drive a ways-in the freezing cold at that. But you are right it is soo fun. Some of these girls got real talent-of coarse my daughter is star of the show in my eyes! She is 7 and knows how to shake it-both booty and head if you know what I mean!

That is the truth, this is our first year and I thought we ran before alot, this is 2 days a week yet at this point, and going to be more and almost every weekend until May. I don't know if it would be easier to have had another girl that I would have to do this double or it's good that I had a boy, who is now almost 8, and we have to his races as he races motorcycles, and that is scary, but it is his life, he loves that as much as my daughter loves to cheer though.

We are busy too....We have cheer 2 nights during the week and once on the weekend! We just got back from competition on Saturday....My daughter was a flyer but needs a little more practice...this is her first year and was scared to go up and at our 2nd competition they dropped her on her face...so now she's scared but I think she'll come around and start doing it again.

I am soooo happy that Field Cheer is over and now we can just focus on Competition Cheer...plus it was getting mighty cold at those outside nighttime practices. Not that it makes my life that much easier but no more cold nights! YAY!!!LOL:)
