I was just wondering if there were any mom's out there whose cheerleader were on a special needs cheer team or if they had a special needs team at there gym. I have a 6 1/2 year old daughter with down syndrome who has recently started cheering and it has been the most wonderful thing for her.

I don't have a special needs child, but I've seen special needs teams at competitions. They always seem to get the biggest response from the crowd and other teams. One team I've seen at every comp has a boy that does amazing tumbling. It really is something wonderful to watch and I feel blessed that I get to see something so positive every time I'm there.

My daughter just joined a special needs team at an all-star gym in Sept 2009. she is 3 soon to be 4 and we have another comp tomorrow. Her team is on the small side 6 kids, but they all love it. We go to the same comps at the other squads at the gym and they all cheer us on!!! My daughter has CP and has an aide with her during practice and performance. She loves it!!!

I actually run a Special Needs team at our All-Star gym-our first year having this unified team and it has been great for everyone at the gym!!!!!

I do not have a special needs child but I do know there is a squad in Memphis, TN for special needs kids (boys and girls). We see them at camp every summer.
