I'm expecting my second child and trying to figure out how much I should increase my nanny's salary. My son will be 2 years old when the new one is born. I pay $425/week now and heard day care charges $300/week per child. Any advice would be appreciated.

To counter the first response, although I had five great au pairs, I went that route because I needed very flexible childcare. Given that some of the au pairs are 18 and 19, you are in loco parentis which means in effect, you are responsible for the well-being of another person. In addition, although there is a weekly pay amount, there are also upfront fees plus education to pay for as these girls come over as students. While I would recommend it for certain situations, anyone thinking about it should do a lot of research.

And re the increase in salary - anyone going from looking after one child to two, particularly a newborn, has double the amount of work, so an increase is definitely in order.

Since daycares and nannies can set their own price its hard to give you a definitive answer. If you have never heard of the au pair program its the same price no matter how many children you have. For $345/wk a family receives 45 hrs of flexible live in childcare. Now some families say "live in" I dont want someone living with me. But I will tell you that in my 6 years of working with hundreds of families who have said that same thing, once they try it they can not believe they did not do it sooner. Its not bad at all its actually awesome! If you would like details or know anyone who might want information on the program please message me.
