Hello,

My son is 4 and first was diagnosed by his developmental pediatrician with dyspraxia then his speech therapist took it further to diagnose him with MERLD and apraxia. He approximates alot, but is not clearly understood by everyone. Has anyone tried the biomedical approaach and had all the different tests done? I have heard good and bad thiings about the supplement SPEAK and mostly positive about Nutraveda..

Does anyone have any thoughts and ideas?

Thanks!

I know this was posted several months ago, but I just wanted to chime in. My son just turned four and has apraxia. He is on Day #15 with a biomedical treatment program. I've done much research on this topic and felt that I needed to at least give it a try as he also has severe food allergies and eczema. I found a Holistic MD (medical doctor with additional holistic/nutritional certifications) to give him multiple tests.

His blood work showed that he was severely deficient in all vitamins and minerals except for vitamin D. His fatty acids & amino acids were a little off, but not too bad. In addition to his true IgE food allergies, the ALCAT test showed that he had several food sensitivities as well. Many will say that this test isn't reliable, but when paired with an elimination diet, I have been told it is a very useful tool in detecting sensitivities.

Jake is on a very strict diet right now and is taking 5 supplements, a multi vitamin, and Juice Plus. The first week he regressed big time & was hyper, not focused, tempermental. Last week, I saw these symptoms disappear and he had a huge surge in speech and personality. It was remarkable. For the past two days, he's been more average with speaking - nothing great, but not complete regression either. I know this is a process though. If it could be cured in 15 days everyone would be doing it! :)

I blog at www.jakes-journey-apraxia.com and while I'm not documenting all of this process online yet, I am keeping accurate notes at home. Feel free to email me at tstarling.fivestar@yahoo.com if you have any questions. My thought with going the route I did was I didn't want to waste a bunch of money with Nutriiveda & other supplements if he really didn't need them. I also feel like we're in a time crunch. He'll start kindergarten in 2 years. I don't have time to try things out. I need to give him what his body needs.

I haven't personally tried either of those with my 5 yo, (she has apraxia) I don't know if you've heard of, or tried Coromega Kids Omega 3s or not but we've seen excellent improvement with that (we found it in the pharmacy at walmart) 30 day supply was very reasonable and seems to really help. This and the gluten free diet we incorporated last year have made a profound difference. Thanks for posting about the SPEAK and Nutraveda. I'll have to check those out too. :)
