He was diagnosed with speech apraxia. He has been in speech therapy for a little over 5 months. He is now being considered for a Physical Therapy evaluation but I don't see why this is necessary. His speech therapist has mentioned it several times in our session and I just don't see how this ties into speech. He tries to talk but we can understand what he says but other people cannot. So he is trying but it just doesn't come out right. Any in a similar situation? When will my son talk?

give him time.. my son had start to talk and stop at 2 . we had him getting speech from 2 at 4 he was saying some words. my god no one is safe from his mouth now.... not only does he talk but .. it seem like he really did not have a problem. because of his speech problem he did not play alot with other kids at the park. they did not understand him .. and he could not explain himself clearly he miss out on some kids things and PT help him along . he learn to kick ball and how to run fast without falling most kids learn this by playing with each other. you know the more people working with him the better... each will talk to him.. this will give him lots of new ways to express himself. .

My son has speech apraxia. We have been in apraxia based speech therapy for 2 years, he is on a special diet to help him and he takes supplements appropriate for treating apraxia. When he was 2 he was totally non-verbal. Now at 3, he says sentences of 5-6 words. A best practice for speech therapy is to combine it with occupational therapy (OT) because it really helps our kids organize their bodies and allow those messages to get through to their mouths. I highly suggest checking out the different treatment methods for apraxia such as the Kauffman method, PROMPT, Speech EZ and find a SLP who can use one or two of those methods. I also recommend using nutrition and diet to help as well. We have seen a huge improvement with these methods. I hope this helps.

Hi, my daughter did not talk until she was 5 years old. She now talks your ear off ..if that helps Speech is a slow slow process. You will see gains made but it takes work and so much follow up at home. Maybe the PT part of the picture is to help his body get into a good space for his speech to follow. The two can be tied to one another. Does you son have any sensory issues? How does he do with motor movements, Did he reach developmental milestones at the appropriate times? I would be happy to talk anytime. I also invite you to my facebook page I Believe In You to read more about Elizabeth, or my website www.michelegianetti.com hope to hear back from you. take care Michele
