My Ex is pushing a 504 on my child's school. He has behavior issues, but makes straight A's and has perfect attendance. The school and I both agree he doens't need to be labelled with a 504. If there is anyone that knows anything about this please help! The school is having a IAT meeting on Tuesday and ARD meeting next week!

A 504 plan is for children with disablities that interfer with their academics. It sounds like your son is doing fine in that area. My son has a vision disability... this causes him headaches doing the school day. He has a 504 in place at his school which allows him extra time to complete assignments. My main concern was getting extra time for the FCAT. ( Because the test is timed & if he failed, he would be held back a year). Usually the counselor and the pschologist of the school make this decision. I am in Flordia so not sure if things are different in other states. Hope this helps.
