3 year old insisting on watching Baby Einstein

My son just turned four and he will still on occasion request the baby einstein videos (they are still sitting on the shelf with all the others). He has told me that he loves the music--and dances around to it--and I know he thinks the puppets are a riot. Even though he's mastered the concepts long ago (shapes, numbers, colors, etc.), I think he just enjoys the other elements, the toys, and the familiarity of it--he knows them so well he can tell me what toy is coming up next. I think kids feel comforted by reviewing things they have already mastered. If he were watching them all the time and nothing else, I'd want him to be challenged more too. But doing it on occasion is no concern whatsoever! I'm happy he's enjoying the classical music. And it is soothing. For both of us! :)

although my daughter mostly watches other things, sometimes she'll ask for baby einstein or something else that is really meant for younger kids.... i think she likes the simplicity of them and helps her relax. i don't think its an issue at all...

I dont think there is anything wrong with it. My daughter occasionally puts one on.. she is nearly 3 1/2. They find different things to learn from it. She knows her colours, identifys the animals, etc. and the music is stimulating. There isn't anything on there that isnt suitable for older children. If they still want to watch it i say let them..

If you think its too baby-ish for him, then I'd just hide it. Buy something more age appropriate and tell him you don't know where Baby Einstein is, but you have this other thing he can watch. The Leap Frog Letter Factory video is pretty good for educational things. My daughter also likes the new math show on tv called Team UmiZoomi. It's on Nik or Nik jr. or one of those channels if you get them. If you find something he likes, maybe get a copy and give it to Grandma too.

I dont really understand, why would he not be alloud to watch Baby Einstein?? If i remember baby einstein is meant to teach kids all kinds of different things and is specifically made for young children, so i would have no problem with that if my son wanted to wach it. Althou i am of the opinion if my son wants to watch it he can. I do not force my child to watch something that he doesnt want to and i encourage him to watch things that interest him. For instance my son is hugely into animals (just like his Mum) and his favorite station on TV is animal plannet, they have all kinds of great shows for kids. I would not worry about letting him watch it, if it is making him happy and giving you a little time to get something done, why not? Hope that helps a little!
