My youngest HATES to have his teeth brushed, and I HATE having to force him to brush. I was just wondering if any one else had/have this problem and any idea's on what I could do to make it easy on him and myself?????

We tell our 3 1/2 little boy that there are cavity monsters in his mouth (the dentist suggested that) and that we had to make sure we get them all out or they will eat up his teeth, and he was so into it!! of course he would get a little figidity but we'd say "oh there he goes let me get him", eventually the teeth would get brushed and he's be happy they were gone for the night. I hope that helps a little, take care and good luck!

my son wouldnt do it at 1st so I would let him watch me brush my teeth and even got him to help me. then after a few times of that i let him pick out his own brush to "play" with while i brushed my teeth and he would try to copy me, then when he got use to the idea of it all i told him i had to help him like he helped me and then he could do it when i was done. then as i brushed my teeth he would brush his.

My son wants to brush his teeth sitting on the kitchen table next to the wash basin. He does not want to brush in the bathroom - so be it - let him brush his teeth wherever he wants to - no forcing. Also 2nd trick is to tell him that there is Spiderman in his mouth and he will come out only if he brushes. This trick works but daily the character in the mouth has to be changed - one day Batman, Spiderman, Dolphin, Alligator, whatever the child wants. This makes it interesting for the child and he can eventually be persuaded to brush and clean his teeth. This method has really resolved my problem quite a bit as otherwise start of each day was a tussle.

I bought my son, who is 3 a spongebob tooth brush that spins and he loves it. I also let him pick out his own tooth paste at the store. Now he reminds me that he has to brush!

My daughter has a battery operated DORA brush. I sit there and sing to her about tickling her teeth. Sometimes I MISS and get her tongue. After I do it I let her finish up by rinsing and spitting all by herself. She really likes to be in charge of getting the right amount of water and spitting it just so into the sink. Silly how something so small can become so important to a three year old!

it also would'nt be a bad idea for the whole family to try and brush your teeth with him..he might like that.

I had the same problem, so I let my son choose his own toothbrush ( he ultimatley chose a spider man battery powered gadget) now whenever it's time to brush our teeth we don't have the tantrums that we used to. Hope this helps

My three year old used to always give me a bad time about brushing his teeth also, for awhile all's i made him do was rinse his teeth, since he hates the taste of toothpaste, then after awhile I told him he needs to use toothpaste, so we get out his toothbrush and toothpaste, and i just put a very tiny amount of toothpaste on his brush sometimes he brushes by himself and sometimes I do it for him!

My 3 year old son loves Cars and Thomas so we picked out a Cars toothbrush and I bought some Thomas toothpaste. I make silly faces with him while we brush our teeth together. We go "EEEEEE" to get the front teeth and "Ahhhhhh" to get the back teeth. He likes trying to put his own toothpaste on and tries brushing his teeth. I tell him "my turn" and finish it up for him. Then I let him do mine. He looks forward to brushing his teeth now. Just try making a game out of it and not put too much pressure on doing it "right".

I had to use bribery for my son. If he wanted to see one of his favorite shows that we've recorded for him he had to brush his teeth. For a while he refused too let us brush his teeth he wanted to do it "By Himself." We let him do it by himself then he reverted back to refusing to brush his teeth, etc. It just depends on his mood. Some days it's a matter of him picking the toothbrush he wants also.

Here is my trick. Pic out the toothbrush they like then have them brush there teeth in the bath tub. For some reason when the water is running or when they are in the water it relaxes them. It is the only place I brush hair and get things done real quick......good luck

I initially had the same problem. But it all worked out in the end. He came with me to the store to choose his own toothbrush (Barney) and toothpaste. I told him Barney would be highly upset with him if he didn't brush his teeth and also by the way mentioned that if he doesn't brush, his teeth will fall out and go rotten. That got him to brush quite happily. Good Luck. Everything in it's own time. My one is giving me problems with pooping in the toilet.

I found that pretending the tooth brush was wispering to me helped! And then I would say the tooth brush has forgotten where he needs to clean. Does he clean ur nose? Dab of toothpaste on her nose, giggles and tooth brush in!

i agree with most of these post, i did the same also, took my three year old to the store, let him pick the toothpaste & toothbrush...he gives me a hard time still sometimes, like he'll pout or what not, but what i do then to get his serious attention is explain to him what will happen if he doesnt take care of his teeth, shots and all :p it gets him to cooperate for at least the amount of time it takes to brush his teeth anyway. good luck !

I got one of the battery powered toothbrushes for my daughter (Dora). I also have one so she liked that it was like mine. I figure the battery powered one gets more done for as long as I can get in there. She gets on a tall stool so she can see in the mirror. She does funny faces to get them all (like "AAAAHHHH" to get the back, sticking her tongue out to get that and "GRRRR" to get the front teeth. I do it as fast as I can then I let her do it more while I do mine. She tries to copy me. Then we both rinse our toothbrushes together and "slurp" the water. She likes that we do it together.

My son has a Thomas the Train toothbrush and the toothpaste. We started out early calling it a train. He has to put fuel in his train (toothpaste) and then brush his tracks. I also tell him to make sure that Thomas goes through the tunnel (opens his mouth) and hits the landing pad (tongue). Its so silly and insane and we do it everyday but he thinks its funny.

I planned a special trip to the store and let my son pick out his favorite toothbrush, anyone he wanted and his own special toothpaste. I told him it will make his teeth white and this makes him a big boy. this works and now he wants to brush them all the time. he tells me, "mommy, i need to make my teeth white!" Good luck!
