Thanks Alison- Change takes time and patience and even in no homework schools parents have fought to have homework. To create change one needs to talk about homework, educate oneself on the subject, keep up to date with the latest research, write about it and so on. Alfie Kohn's book "The homework myth" is a good place to start and definitely a book you can donate to your school or give to teachers as gifts.

As your children will most likely be part of a system that is pro homework it is important to collaborate with them on it. Teach them quick ways of getting it done, finding ways to make it fun and more meaningful tio their life and chat to their teacher's in a friendly way finding ways to reduce it.

very nice site Claire! I especially like the No Homework piece, although I would appreciate a more practical article on how to apply it.

I did not do homework in elementary school and have always felt it is more important for children to play. But I don't want to teach my children to be rebellious or for them to learn that there are exceptions to rules for them. I also want to have a healthy relationship with their teachers!

I still have a year or two before I have to deal with this, but I have been thinking about it for awhile already.
