My son turned 4 today and he loves water. However he is old enough to know when it is ok to play with water and when it is not. He knows that he has to wait for Mummy to enter a pool or the bathtub. For his brithday he received these hot wheels cars that are color changers, hot and cold water change them to different colors (what an awsome idea i think.) anyways so he has been playing with thoes ...we let him fill up the water bottle that they come with and spray away. He had a great time. I dont think there is anything wrong with letting our children play in water as long as it is supervised fun.

i am not that keen on this, as i have heard of small children drowning in a few inches of water. i would rather explain to him that water can be dangerous and it is better to wait till mummy has time to watch him play, before he does this -- and then make sure you do give him that playtime while you are watching....

My almost 4 yr old also LOVES the water. If I don't hear her for a few mins I walk into the bathroom and wala there she is with her shirt all wet as well as my sink and the floor. As long as its only water she doesn't get into trouble because its good for kids to explore. She has to help clean up her mess. As long as its safe for them to play in the water like the water isn't contaminated or its not freezing and they have time to dry off then it should be just fine to play in water..

There are advantages and disadvantages to children who love water. When they are babies they love their baths, but if you are not careful they will climb into the bath tub when you are not ready, so you have to keep a sharp eye on them. This goes for the same for pools. I have had to rescue toddlers who jump into pools even when they doen't know how to swim. They just have no fear. They best thing for a parent to do in this type of situation it to teach them one simple phrase. "Wait for Mommy." Anytime your son is around water or facets, just tell him he has to wait for Mommy. Once he is a little older to understand, explain to him why, such as... we don't want to waste all the water, or mommy has to make sure the water is safe before you get in... or just tell him its HOT! .. I always tell my son that the water is HOT! He is only 1 1/2 yrs old, but HOT is one of those words that he understands. Good Luck!

My son is the same and has been this way since a baby... loves water! At his age (nearly 4 now), he understands he's not suppose to play with water, but still does it sometimes. I don't think anything is wrong with it if it doesn't make too much of a mess or if he is not getting soaking wet while it's really cold or drafty. I have filled the sink with water and a few bubbles and let him help "wash dishes" and he loves to get a bath. I think it's normal for some kids to love water so much. Maybe he'll be a marine biologist someday! :)
