Hi there
We are wanting to get into the toilet training thing just wanting to know if anyone has any tips or suggestions for training boys?
My son does sit on the toilet and wees and hasnt done anything else yet. He is happy to sit there for a good while reading books which is great. Also I am thinking is it better to use pullups or just underpants? If they dont want to go do you insist that they go?
I am in Australia and the weather is warm so I am thinking of letting him play oudoors in his undies.
Any Suggestions and tips would be great!

We let Brayden run around with no undies on since it was summer time and we lived in the country. It really helped him to notice when he had to go and that he could go all by himself. He wanted to be like daddy which also helped. He only now wears diapers at night. Another thing, Brayden would always wet his pull-up...they were a waste of money for us, they felt too much like a diaper. Hope this helps....GOOD LUCK

I have an 8 year old boy and a 2.5 year old. My 8 yr old trained at 2 my 2.5 yr old has been trained about 2 months. We did undies only, my boys got lazy in pull ups. My 2 year old will still be lazy if someone puts a pull up on him. We also did standing up so they could have a target to shoot at in the potty. We also do food coloring the boys love the magically changing water.

I've also been told several times that the thick training underwear is much better to use than pull-ups. I haven't done this successfully yet...my son is only 2 years and 2 months, but he is telling us when he wants to "pee-pee" regularly. If my hubby or I are distracted and don't get him on the potty right away, he will go in his diaper (we haven't found training pants the right size yet). But he is taking it all in stride and doing it by his own initiative.

Hi,

I have trained 3 boys so I hope this helps.  My youngest was a breeze. He is a Jan 2006 boy so he is almost 3. He has been completely trained since June.  Try putting cheerios in the toilet and have aim at it like targets.,and for #2 wait and watch to see when tries and (hide) mine did to do it in private. Then I would take him to the toilet and sit therewith him once he did it once I had no more problems. I like the idea uf underpants. Pull-ups are still thck like a diaper. So they still feel like they are wearing one. I hope this is helpful.

I had a difficult time potty training my 3 alost 4 year old to go on the potty. She refused, she knew what to do and everything she just didn't want to do it because the more I stressed out about it the more I would stress her out. I quit talking about it and backed off. One day I was at my husbands restaraunt and one of the servers told me she use to teach preschoolers and the way they would teach the children to go pee pee on the potty was they would use food coloring and put it in the potty and when the kids would pee pee the colors would change to a different color. I tried it as soon as we got home and my daughter was amazed at all the different colors she could pee. I used the gel food coloring so the changing to other colors didn't work as well but if you get the liquid food coloring the colors may change better. But anyways from then on she has been using the potty all by herself, wearing big girl panties with no accidents...So maybe the food coloring will work for you as well. Also my daughter didn't like to be the center of attention like her mommy and when we made a big deal about her going she wouldn't want to go...so I had to hold in my excitement and just give her hug tell her I am proud of you and give mommy a high five. Some children just don't want the potty parties or dances...they just want to do it and be done with it. So I hope this might help you out..keep us posted!!!

The best thing I can tell you is to put REAL underwear on him, once my son peed on him self a couple of times he didn't want to get wet. I promise he was trained in a week. I have had no accidents or anything.  I do put pullups on him at night, but he RARELY wets them.  We stressed how he was wearing big boy underwear and let him pick them out, he said he was "like daddy!"  Also little rewards were helpful and lots of praise.  Since its summer I absolutly would let him run around outside...even without undies.  Do not worry about teaching him to stand right now though, just getting him to sit is enough, standing comes later.  As far as the other, if hes kinda ona time schedule for that try to put him on his potty about that time, or watch for those signs.  Repetition will get it...Good Luck!

my boy is two and a half now.he started by watching mummy and daddy on the toilet and wanted to copy,so he started by using a toilet seat.now he prefers his potty as it give him his independence to go pee pee and poo poo by himself and comes and tells me when hes been that way theres no pressure on him to go to the toilet.i started the potty by him being nappyless and in the garden in the summertime.i would use pull ups they are so much easier to the toddler to do it himself then.my boy has been in pull ups for ages now as they are easier.

All I can say is just take your time, time is all we have when we are trying to potty train our toddlers. I have a 2 year old son, that I am trying to potty train, he really doesn't want anything to do with it. I babysit a 2 year old girl (which is only 2 weeks younger than my son) and she goes potty and poo-poo on the potty. I think boys are later in potty training than girls. I would let him run around in his undies, than he will feel the pee on his leg, and maybe run to the potty! Hope this helped you! Have a good day. Michele
