Strangers vs little girls

My 3 1/2 yr old is to comfortable around new people especially guys. I haven't spoken to her about strangers, or how not to act around men. But I don't think its appropriate if I'm conversing with a guy in a waiting room, or if I'm at a friend's house and they have a relative or guy friend there my daughter plays on the spot with them, and with no hesitations she climbs on their lap! my daughter is very high spirit and innocent vs the not so innocent guys that could be in the world. How do you explain to kids her age not to interact with strangers that way.

This is a difficult situation, my daughter is also 3 1/2 and has no fear of anyone. I really don't want her to be paranoid about people but I also want her to learn to be cautious. I have told her many times never to go anywhere with anyone other than mom or dad without asking first. Its sad that we have to try and explain to a 3 yr old why some people are bad.

You know, Shaolin, this question really had me stumped, because we want to keep our babies safe, but we want them to enjoy their innocence, too. As for lap sitting, I wasn't allowed to sit on any male's lap, even the ones we knew. So, I asked my husband for his take on it, and I think he had a really good response:

Tell her that she shouldn't talk to or sit with strangers, especially if you're not around. You can even go so far as to list names of people she's allowed to talk to. This will take a lot of repitition, particularly since your little one is so outgoing. I'd also recommend visiting the library for children's books that teach children these kinds of safety tips. I really hope this helps.

I would just tell her that she needs to be careful who she talks to and keep an adult close by her if she is going to talk to a stranger because even if a person looks nice they could be mean. There are bad people out there that steal little kids. I don't really know for sure how to say it word it so it don't scare her but so she knows anything can happen. Good Luck my children are both very shy so I kind of lucked out on that!!
