My son just turned 3 and he's great when it comes to peeing in the toilet, but poos... why does he still have accidents? Is there something I should be doing/not doing? Thanks!

My son is also doing fairly well with potty training-but mine poops in the potty but has alot of accidents with peeing. We also try to keep kids books in the bathroom to keep him busy instead of concentrating too much on what he's doing.I know thats not alot of advice but hope it helps-good luck :)

Thank you, Michelle... He loves Thomas the Tank books and I've tried giving him some books to read while he sits on the toilet seat (we actually have a little toilet seat over the normal size one)... he can sit there for 10 minutes and nothing... then, as soon as I put his underwear back on... poos!! The pee, he's fine with that because he copies his Dad! My husband taught him and my son thinks he's very clever because he pees like Daddy...

My oldest (who is 10 now) was the same way and I started doing the sticker thing also. I let him pick them out and stick them on the paper. My youngest will be 4 in Feb and still has done alot better b/c of watching and going potty with my oldest (he wants to be like big brother). He will have an accident every now and then. Also, if your kiddo is like mine then he goes poop at the same time everyday. Start putting him on the pot before that time or move the potty where you spend most of your time and that may help.

My son would pee in the potty no problem but when it came time to poo he would hide and do it in his pull up. I got so frustrated I didnt know what to do till a family member told me how they did their kids. When he poos in his pants clean him up and then take him to the potty make him sit there for about 5-10min to let him no that's where he needs to go. Leave the bathroom door open so you can check on him but don't stand in plain sight. We did this for about 3days and he hasnt had an accident since its been about 3mo now.

Hi Vivian & Michelle,

My son is 3 & half now and I was just as frustrated as you are. I nearly gave up a couple of times, but patience and perseverence pays off. He started peeing quite quickly. But the poos took quite a while. This is his 6th day now without an accident. He sometimes used to pee or even poop in his pants. While cleaning him, show him where the poop goes and tell him to smell how stinky it is. I used to tell him that he is a baby because he pees and poops in his pants and eventually I think he got frustrated with being called a baby and started going. I am keeping my fingers crossed to see if he will keep it up. Also try and use a sticker chart, 1 sticker for peeing and 2 stickers for pooping. Even give them stickers for washing hands and flushing. Also praise them every time they go. They just love being praised and told that they are big boys now. I hope this helps.
