Does anyone have any ideas if celiac and low muscle tone in toddlers is connected? My daughter has LMT but we cant figure out why and her father and three relatives have celiac. She does not show any typical celiac symptoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Heather,
I found your post on this site when I did an internet search for low msucle tone. I found many different pages that suggest hypotonia but my son does not have all the symptoms and only has the low muscle tone in his legs. I was wondering if you did find out what was causing this in your daughter? My husband and I cant seem to figure it out. Some days he has a really good day and can climb up stairs without a problem and other days are really bad where he cant seem to get up off the floor and falls alot.

She has not been tested. She seems to only have low muscle tone issues in the legs. She didnt spit up as an infant, but she was very fussy from gas. She is almost three now. And we are still working on running fast and jumping and walking up and down stais by herself. She is always moving forward never stagnant or going backwards. She did not crawl until 17 month and walked at 22 months. She always seems to do each step by the book just later than average.

I dont think it is related. Has she been tested for celiac disease? The low muscle tone called hypotonia causes all muscles to be "floppy" including stomach/throat muscles which allows for kids to spit up easier and to not hold food down causing acid reflux. My dd has hypotonia and constantly spit up when she was an infant, now 3 she rarely does. The stronger they get the stronger all their muscles get. How old is your dd?
