Here in the US it is summer, and my kids are off,but they will be going back soon...
I thought it would be helpful to have a group that specifically addresses school issues.
(and I can not find a community on COM that is SPED specific)
SO,I started a community for children with special needs and school.
With IEP's,504's,BIP and HCP it can get overwhelming at times

It would be nice to post SPED resources and transition ideas for when school does start, and when it starts I know I will need somewhere to vent...lol

Good evening,

I have 2 children who have received/are receiving EI services. My oldest E aged out of physical therapy when she turned 3 ( now 3-1/2), and we are trying to decide whether or not to follow advice from the preschool's screening team. Her EI PT did not advise going through transition- her delay was corrected by age 3. However my younger daughter F is currently seeing an EI ST who, after interacting with E advised me to get her screened at the preschool.

Our original plan was to start E this next fall at age 4. The screening team has advised starting an indefinite classroom setting assessment of her beginning asap. (She has a difficult time being assessed on an individual basis)

My husband and i have considered just enrolling her in activities at our country club until the fall. Its close to home and going there on daily basis right now is feasible- unlike preschool. (We have one car and have to consider also the schedules of the multiple therapists F sees).

My question is- should we just follow advice and throw her immediately into prek? If we decide against this option, are we holding her back?

Thank you for your time

E is 3-1/2 (former EI PT)
F is 2-1/2 (EI PT, DT)

I have a sixth grade daughter who is borderline mentally retarded with an IQ of about 75. we have been mainstreaming her in school with some resource class help but it it seems not be enough at this point. So now I'm looking into some moderate disability classes but my daughter is not happy about the change of schools. Very frustrating. also frustrating, is that she doesn't have a very good social skills and so is often very lonely at school. I am having a lot of trouble trying to find groups or clubs or whatever that would work for here. Any suggestions would be welcome.
