I am very concerned about my daughters acid reflux. She has had it since she was born and it seemed like it was getting better then the past 2 years she has been vomiting, complaining of stomach and chest pains, and having trouble breathing. She was diagnosed with asthma last month because of her acid reflux. She is on the diet her doctor put her on and her bed is elevated. She has missed 21 days of school this year and it seems like she catches everything that is going around. I have thought about homeschooling her because she gets sick so much but she likes school so well and would miss her friends if I did. It just bothers me to see her sick and the school does not understand that she is really sick because of her acid reflux. She is always going to the school nurse and she gives her crackers or peppermints for her stomach. Even though I have told the nurse that my daughter is not aloud to have peppermints because it causes her acid reflux to get worse. We are going to see the specialist Monday and they are going to run some test on her. I am just really scared that she is going to have to have surgery. I was wanting to know if any of you have the same problem and some advice for me. I am just really worried about my little girl.

My daughter is only 16 months but has suffered from reflux since birth also. Our GP just fobbed us off with different meds to try including gaviscon and zantac and then saying if they dont work its not reflux. After 7 months of my little girl suffering i demanded a referal to a paediatrician who told us she did have reflux put her on losec and a prescription formula as he suspected allergies could be the cause. She had stopped eating altogether because her throat was so red raw from being sick all the time and it took her a couple of months to start again it was awfull. Does your daughter have dairy or soy in her diet? Anyway at 16 months old and still on both meds (we have been unsuccesfull at getting her off) he wanted to see her again. She has to go in for a barium swallow, is this what your daughter is having? He suspects there is an internal issue, possible a hiatial hernia which would require surgery to fix amongst a couple of other things hes looking for. We also have a referal to a surgeon to talk about having the operation which stops the reflux coming up. Im in two minds about it and hoping shel grow out of it and think il just stick to the losec for as long as it works, shes on the max dose now so once it stops working we wont have a choice. Does your daughter take any meds to help? Im really scared about it too, my son died 5 months ago and I really couldnt bare anything happining to my little girl.

You can help your baby by raising her Alkaline level. You can do this with diluted baking soda in water. 1/2 a teaspoon a day. Be creative and find the best way to have her drink it. Do this for about 3 days and see how she feels.
