My 7 yr old son has ADHD and he is always eating. He ate before was put on meds. and he still eats. Both of my children do. They are tiny though. I keep very little junk in the house. I do not give a lot of things with sugar in them to him at all. I basically allow him to have healthy snacks. Some of the meds. do cause the to be hungry. Veggies are the best, and the green ones are better for you.

I know how you feel, my 8 year old is always famished. Not on meds since he also has NLD his brain doesn't seem to know when he is full until it is too late. We have no candy, chips in the house but he will still eat lots of fruit, raw vegies, whole grain breads & crackers and drink. Has been tested for Prader Willie and diabetis. We are now checking further into genetics.

my first question to you is is he on any kind of medication for his ADD/ADHD ? becaus emy son was the same way before medication I think it was a coping thing because school was rough he knew he was acting up and so he turned to food just like adults to for various reasons once we got him on to medication that helped with his behavior he became more confident started doing well in school and made friends food was no longer his comfort he's a big tall kid to the start of last year which was 2nd grade he was 102 this summer he's down to 79 and looks great kids dont tell him hes fat anymore and that alone is a huge ego boost for him if you have not desided to medicate yet you may talk to your doctor it's not right for all kids but it has brought a relief to our family that I am so thankful for hes confident getting along well with other kids I dont have to talk to his teacher everyday hes doing great in his classroom .plus kids sometimes start with food and that can start this life cycle of addiction that can lead to more addictive and self medicating behaviors such as drugs sex alcohol ect an dI know none of us want that to be the life our kids lead

I truly do not know what you can do. I have this problem with both of my children one of them has adhd the other does not and they have both become overweight and it is worrying me alot. I do not like it when my child cries because they are hungry and because of it I relent (this is not the right thing to do) all i can suggest is you have to be tough and just say no and try to ignore the tears and whining. Maybe also you could try bribery if they eat all their meals through the day then maybe after dinner they can have a small snack thats not to unhealthy. Good Luck!!
