Hi Lisa, my name is Melyssa and I have a 10 year old son named Kyle. He was born with a unilateral cleft lip and pallet. He has had all of his surgeries done, but might need another bone graft. We have started Orthodontia to fix his teeth. FYI, you might want to check with your insurance to see if they cover the ortho. I had to do a little bit of haggling with mine, but they finally relented and are now paying 100% of it.

Hi Laura. Yes my doctor sent us to for genetic tests and they concluded that it was 2 separate isolated cases. They said because my daughter only had cleft palate and son had bilateral cleft lip and palate, that they were not related cases.  Nathan is 2, almost 3 and still has a small fistula opening in his palate, we go back in June so hopefully I will know what comes next. He has been in speech therapy since he was 1 and will be going thru a transition from home therapy to school when he is 3 in June. Lisette is 10 and has speech in school once a week. Hoping all is well with your family, I'll keep you posted.

Hi Lisa, my name is Laura. I have three children and two were born with both cleft palate and lip. Michaela is 9 and she had harelip on one side. Her ops are done and now need to start with repair to her teeth. Keagan is 3 now and he was born with a bilateral harelip. His ops have been done. Both children need a bit of speech therapy, but other than that they are doing very well. My doctor said that it unusual to have more than one child born with these defects. keep well. hope to hear from you.
