In 2009, I had a little boy named Aaron. 2 hrs after he was born, we found out he had a cleft palate. He was taken away and no one told us anything for what seemed like forever. That was the most nerve racking experiernce I have gone through. Well I am currently 7 weeks pregnant with baby number 3 and I am so scared about this baby having the cleft palate also or worse. It will not change anything but I still wander. Have any of you had a baby after one with a cleft lip/palate and did they have it also?

I see. Maybe just no one told me. The dr that delivered my son that had it wasn't that great. But I am glad that it doesn't change anything for you. :) That is great!!!

i know people who havent all i know is that our cleft nurse asked me if i was planning on any more children and if i was then to be aware of the higher chance. dont necessarily believe it but dont care either. doesnt change anything,

Also. Vicki- I have never heard that after having one child with it, you have a higher chance having another with it. That is new to me. It is a 1 in 6 chance for everyone though. :/

I have three boys!! My first was immediately taken away and we were unable to see him. Our dr promptly told us why though. I have had two little ones since, and worried about it nonstop. Neither of them was born with it. :)

I was told by our cleft nurse that i have a 10% higher chance of having another baby than anyone else.

hi jessica,i have 3 children and only my middle child blake was born with a cleft lip,it was worrying when i found out i was pregnant again,but after we had blake they told us at genetics that the chances where very slim of it happening again,dont know whether you have seen someone like this???? and also i had a very different experience than you,i found out at my 20 week scan that blake had got a cleft lip,which gave us time to get used to it,and you didnt it seems like it was a scary experience,i would maybe ask when you see your midwife about having a specilist scan at 20 weeks or maybe a 3d scan,i was offered a 3d scan.so if the baby has got a cleft pallate or lip,that you are aware of this before you have the baby... hope this helps : ) x x
