Patrick has cleft lip and soft palate, his gum in the front has a ball like form and the rest of his gums are skinny, wide, bumpy and lumpy. Is it more painful or harder for them to cut teeth and do they start teething at the normal age? Patrick is 4 month and about a month ago he started chewing and drooling, now he has fits were he drives his hands in his mouth and everything he can get a hold of, he will scream for hours.... tylenol doesnt seem to help neither does advil. I put orajel on his gums and he screamed and cried it was awful. Let me know your experiences and solutions anything would help at this point.

He really hasn't had much of a problem so far his teath are beautiful! He has got his molars about a month ago and yesterday was the first day I saw a tooth on his upper left gums where his cleft was... long time to get them on that side. He has his left front tooth and no other teeth so fun until like his molar..... will find out more next month when we go for check up at IWK

Sounds like he is teething more than one tooth. Which can happen. My oldest cut four in one night. I thought I would go crazy. But always call your Dr if you are really worried.

My daughter is going through this now. What did you learn from the experience?

My daughter who is 3 know was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. She teethed just like her brothers did who don't have clefts. She even has a tooth coming out the roof of her mouth in the center and it didn't bother her when it pushed through. So no she didn't have any problems with teething.

My son didn't have any problem with his teeth. You might want to check with the Dr. for suggestions.Every case is different. The poor thing must really be in pain.I'll keep him in my prayers
