My daughter Brihanna was born April 23, 2007 with a cleft lip, that has affected her right nostril. She is a very precious little girl, with an absolutely beautiful smile; both before and after her first surgery. Brihanna had her first surgery at 3 1/2 months of age and will be having her second surgery at some point after she turns two.
Brihanna's cleft came as a complete shock to us...she would hide her face during each and every ultrasound. My husband Ross and I had never seen a baby born with a cleft lip before, so it was a bit of a shock...but her cleft lip made her smile extra special-she had a big and beautiful smile, that melted our hearts.
Feedings were a struggle for the first few weeks, but we finally were able to find a bottle that Brihanna could feed from more easily; unfortunately breast feeding did not work out for us.
Brihanna's surgeon was truly amazing...Dr. Strumas did a wonderful job with Brihanna's lip. Her surgery went well and recovery went relatively well. I am definately nervous about her next surgery, but I have faith in our surgeon.
