My two year old son is having his first corrective surgery in 4 weeks at Rady Children's Hopital in SD. I'm so nervous since this i the type of surgery where he will have to be put to sleep and everything. I want to know what to expect that day and feeding afterward I am getting so anxious. Please help.

Hello!! My son, Evan, is 15 months old and already has had 2 surgeries. ( One major and one minor. ) His first was at 3 months to repair his lip and the other was just a few weeks ago to put in ear tubes. Every child is different but Evan did very well with both. He had to be put under longer for his first and came out of it like a champ. I was SOOO nervous as well but he surprised the heck out of me and did fantastic. Your son is much older but I am sure no matter their age, they do just as well:) Children are very resilient and can react by their parents reactions...I made sure to stay calm and take everything as it happens. Especially as they get older. If he sees you are scared and nervous, he'll feel that and react himself! Stay calm..(easier said than done...I know!!) and be there for him. Feeding afterward should be not be restricted if all goes well. I am amazed how much time has passed since my son's surgery and I am so glad it's over... take a deep breath and before long it will only be a memory:) Good luck to all of you!!
