Probiotics for infants?

My baby girl is 3 months and has reflux as well. I have been putting probiotics in her bottle for a little more than a month now. Natren Life Start is the brand I use, I bought mine at a local health food store but you can pick it up at the Vitamin Shop also. I think it has helped with gas (fussiness) and constipation. If you're adding rice cereal to his milk it can be very constipating, which in turn adds to their fussiness and spitting up. You can also try Gripe water, it helps with gas on the spot and can be picked up at health food stores also. The 2 have been a nice combination for us!
Hope this helps!

It works wonderfully! My LO had c-difficile so we used to replace the good bacteria in her body. But her gastro recommended it for gas too. At first we used culturelle and just opened the capsule and poured it in her bottle, the gastro recommended a liquid form called biogaia. It's rather expensive and only certain pharmacy's carry it. But it is proven better than mylicon for gas. They get like 5 drops once a day! The Culturelle you can buy in the pharmacy section at walmart. But honestly I would spend the money on the Biogaia because it really works!!! I hope this helps!

You still have to be carefull with the probiotics - my son was getting sick all the time and on antiobiotics so to put the good bacteria in his system we started him this but was unware of the milk in it and he has a milk allergy and it gave him loose stool. Also both of my children had GERD (reflux) and the formula I found that worked best was the Wal-mart Branded Soy formula. Soy b/c of milk allergy. Just make sure you do your research a little better than I did.

Be very careful for baby formula that is specifically for reflux, it made my baby extremely constipated, I think it is much more harmful to be very constipated than to have reflux.
There is a produt from Nestle called Nestum( it is powder, but you make a paste) which you add to breast milk or formula which combats reflux.

i remember one of my boys had it too i tried it and many other things including a few teaspoons of orange juice seemed to work i also tried prune juice or apple juice i also used to stimulate his bum hole that worrked too and putting a bit of vaseline he survived it all hes 6 now and not an everymorning kind of guy buts hes fine. i have to admit even though the doctor said they can go a few days and not go i wanted my baby to go everyday. do u breast or bottle cause i tried only breast feeding and even changing my diet and that did not make a difference i donnt know if that has been suggested to u.

Lisa - I would like to also suggest Ultimate Aloe Juice - it tastes delicious, is 150% Aloe Juice - and my customers as well as myself have had great results with Aloe Juice and acid reflux. My husband doesnt take prilosec anymore, and when my mom takes it, she doesnt either. I used it to clear out my system and promote my immune system. My sister, was told she had GIRD - she is amazed at how well this did for her. And babies can take it too.

Shaklee just came out with a new multivitamin and multimineral powder for children 6 months and older, which contain prebiotics. This is from Shaklee's informational sheet: "Infants who were fed in baby food or infant formula have been found to have higher levels of bifido-bacteria in their intestines, which in turn help support a strong immune system. Studies have also shown that when toddlers in day care are fed food enriched with prebiotics, they experience improved digestive and immune health." This product also contains the new recommendation of 400 IU of vitamin D. The American Academy of Pediatrics recently increased its recommended daily intake of vitamin D from 200 IU to 400 IU for infants and toddlers. If you'd like more information on Shaklee's new vitamins for infants and children (including a new orange chew containing DHA Omega-3 fatty acid for kids!), feel free to email me at DandJ@Shaklee.net. Hope this helps.

I switched to the Good Start Probiotic formula for infants. I have a three month old and she was so gassy and had begun to have indigestion often. My doctor suggested I put some in her bottle, and then I found the formula! After 3 different tries with other fomulas, I found my dream come true. She is a completely different baby! No pains at all, regular poos, and she started growing like a weed! I'm a really big believer in their bennifits.

Probiotics can be found at your local health food store-make sure you get a refrigerated product-some are sold off the shelf and therefore do not contain the necessary good bacterias that must be refrigerated. I use Natren Life Start in powder form (for my infant) and mix it with yogurt. For older children, you can get a chewable tablet that works great too! Probiotics are fantastic for regulating the intestinal track and also keeping babies immune system bolstered by maintaining the level of good bacteria necessary to fight the bad! They should be taken daily by the whole family, mommies and daddies too (they come in capsules for adults)! Especially if Mom is breastfeeding! Please visit my fb page FussyBuster for more great info!
