I am homeschooling my 10 year old. Its our 2nd year homeschooling. He just learned to read last year when he was 9. We used the K-2 grade Hooked on Phonics. He is reading great now, but he is having trouble remembering the work we have done in the past. Also what we just went over. He has trouble with Math, Grammar, Writing and he writes a lot of his numbers and letters backwards. Even though he is sometimes just copying them. I am at my wits end and need any advise on how to improve his memory and help him do better.I feel like I am failing him. He doesn't even want to try or do the work. I have spent more money than I would like to admit on different curriculum and none of them seem to work. I am in need of help please.

You can take him to a pediatrician, or a kids psychologist that specializes with learning disabilities, but I bet you can also contact the school district that you are in. Let them know you are home schooling and ask if there are any resources at having your son evaluated for learning disabilities.

Otherwise, if you have the funds, you can contact some one like Sylvan learning center.

While I usually avoid the school districts involvement in my HSing, I also know that our tax dollars do go toward some of the programs and such available in the schools.

Perhaps they can help.

Thanks for answering. Do I bring him to the doctor to get tested for dyslexia?

Based on what you are saying I would have your son tested for dislexia as at his age he should not be flipping letters anymore this is definitely an indicator of dislexia, this would definitely affect him in all of his work. If it is dislexia you can learn ways of helping him deal with this disorder and then he should excel with his learning.
