Hi,I'm Heather and I have a 4year old son named Nathan. Nathan was born in December and won't be allowed to attend Kindergarten b/c of when his bday falls. I have looked into getting him into the Extension Program that I graduated from but they don't take children until around age 7. Age 6 is the mandatory schooling in my state. The Extension Program is homeschooling combined with campus testing. I really enjoyed it and was able to move at my own pace in my schoolwork, without being held back by other children that didn't comprehend the subject matter as quickly. I really don't want to put him in a public preschool so I was wondering aside from expensive curriculum packages for homeschooling, what are my options? This will just be used until I can enroll him into the Extension Program of course.

I've created my own stuff for my son and have based it on Bible principles. I do a theme each week and work on 1 letter, 1 number, pre-writing activities, letter/number tracing, Bible stories, crafts, art, coloring pages, scissor cutting, spelling activities, counting activities, etc. I do the calendar, weather, and phonics each day. We also work on memorizing address, phone number, full name, and emergency number every day.

There are many free curriculums you can get:

www.preschoolpalace.org - offers free curriculum every month

You can visit my facebook page for lesson plans, ideas, tips, resources, etc: http://www.facebook.com/groups/173357539...!/pages/Sonshine-Tot-School/150133358407687

If you want to teach Christian character, check out:

My daughter just turned 4 on Aug 26th. I am doing a kindergarten lesson plan with her because she is academically ready. I'm also homeschooling my son who is a 2nd grader (homeschooled since kindergarten). I found an old version of Hooked on Phonics for $20 at a garage sale. I taught my son how to read off of this and now my daughter is learning. I also get all my worksheet off free printable sites. I like: havefunteaching.com, kidzone.ws, tlsbooks.com, mathgen.com, education.com, superteacherworksheets.com, preschoollearners.com. I have only used paper and ink and this is our 3rd year. If you are looking for good books check out Brainquest.com or hookedonphonics.com.

www.funshineexpress.com - Great curriculum! I'm only going to buy the FAITH supplement and put my own alphabet, numbers, shapes, and colors to it. I'll use their line up for the year. But the FAITH supplement package is only $6.95/month!

I taught preschool for a year before deciding that I wanted to stay home with my kiddos. I will just be using what I got from the internet for my classroom to teach my preschooler. I have some great websites you can use!

preschoolexpress.com
writingwizard.longcountdown.com
first-school.ws
dltk-kids.com
abcteach.com
hubbardscupboard.org
allthedaze.com

Also, what I did in my classroom is use the first 3-4 weeks focusing on shapes and colors. Then, I did a letter or two a week and would review what we had learned at the end of each month. We also had a "circle time" when we reviewed the alphabet, counting, the weather, days of the week, months of the year, the date, the letter of the day... That's when the kids learned the most, because it was repetition.

I hope this helps a little!

Homeschooling can be as expensive as you make. there are some who pride themselves at finding deals and doing it all for free and there are some who don't bat a eye to paying hundreds of dollars.

Preschool/K doesn't have to be that much. If you're wanting to spend a hundred or so, I'd recommend My Father's World or Hands on Homeschooling. If you're wanting just $30 ish or less, Rod and Staff has great workbooks very inexpensive. But basically you really just need a workbook from Walmart, a printer and a library card!!! have fun!!!
