My daughter will only take naps in the car in car seat...At daycare she sleeps 15 minutes here and there..If I try to put her down for a nap in her crib she cries and cries...she is happy when she is awake, but I don't see how she manages to make it without longer naps

generally a 15min nap means your child is overtired and cannot fall asleep by themselves. at 6 months old they can generally handle about 2.5 hours of being awake before needing a nap, some closer to 3 hours but anything more and you are entering overtired territory and an overtired baby will not sleep until they absolutely crash and then the sleep isnt deep restorative sleep like what we would have. I dont beleive a 6 month old doesnt need sleep, i beleive that a 6 month old that doesnt nap is extremely sleep deprived and there is nothing good about that. Babies do most of their growing when they are asleep, they NEED to sleep.

Every child is different. My second son never slept for more than 30 minutes at a time--even when he was a newborn! I think he took his first one-hour nap at about 10 months...but that was the only one that day. I would put him to bed at 8:00 when he was a todder/preschooler, but I would hear him talking to himself until after 9:00. Now, he is 16 and I know he is up til midnight reading, but I'm not going to worry about it anymore as long as he gets up in time. I'm certainly not going to wait for him to get sleepy anymore! If your daughter is happy while she's awake, then I wouldn't worry about it.

The important thing that I saw in your post was that she is happy when she is awake. Don't push her to sleep. If you see signs that she is sleepy...you know as a mom what those are....then try rocking her and singing to her. Make sure her room is dark and maybe put some soothing music on. Other than that, I wouldn't push the naps. How does she sleep at night? I never let my kids cry themselves to sleep....just don't believe in it...I always rocked my babies...and believe me, they grow up sooo fast. I loved that time. Now I love snuggling with my grandson when he comes over and needs a nap.....but I digress....I just would say that if she is happy, she is getting the sleep she needs!

My daughter is 5 1/2 months, and she has never been a long napper. Every once in a long long time she will take an hour and half nap, but she usually only takes two 20-30 minute naps at random times during the day (usually one in the afternoon and one in the evening). I think if she naps anymore, she won't sleep through the night, so I let her do it and don't try to make her nap more.

She might not need naps. If she is happy being awake then let her play. My second son was that way. He didn't nap after 6 months at all... When he went to day care they forced him to take naps, and then he wouldn't sleep through the night. I just asked the day care not to enforce it, we were all happier when he didn't nap.

My oldest son was the same way for a while and most parents wouldnt agree I would lay him in bed and let him cry himself to sleep no matter how long it took. I would make sure all his needs were meet and check on him every 15 min but he would fall asleep and once he realized I wasnt coming back he started to go right to sleep when I would lay him down. And when he did wake up after 15 min I just let him whine himself back to sleep. Good luck1
