Am I taking these t.v. shows too far?

Hi! I am struggling with tv shows for my 7 & 8 year old right now. They want to watch shows such as iCarly, Good Luck Charlie, Wizards of Waverly Place and Shake it Up. The problem I have with these shows is it promotes boyfriend relationships, kissing, and crude name calling at times. What are your opinions on these types of shows for young girls? Thanks!

i am with you 100%...trust your judgment and make a list of acceptable shows for them to watch or else watch with them and discuss what you find offensive so that at least they know your viewpoint...personally i would turn most of it off as it desensitizes kids to crude language...and they are a bit young for relationship type shows

They do annoy me...I worry that the content is too mature for them...but it does give me a chance to talk to the girls...mostly about NOT copying the behaviors they see on these shows.
I had a HUGE problem with Charpet? Charmain? was that her name? In High School Musical? She was SUCH a rotten BRAT....I spent the whole time through three movies telling my girls they are NOT allowed to act that way. At all...for any reason. I told them the movie was TRYING to show how she never gets her way, because she is so brat-like.

My son is now 7 and he is only aloud to watch educational and Nick Jr. shows. I believe those shows are more for young teens like 11-12.
