Hi everyone. I have a question about when your baptized your little ones. I have a 17 month old son we havent baptized or dedicated yet. My husband was raised Catholic and I was raised Presbyterian. We never went to church much before our son was born. Once he was born i decided i really wanted to have him baptized or dedicated. We were going to baptize him catholic, but me husband decided he didnt want to raise him that way. We had waited until a time when his brother was home since we wanted him to be our sons godparent. Anyway. We have have finally found a church we love and have started going to on a regualar basis, a methodist church. So Im sure its not too late to baptize or dedicated. But i was curious when every one else did it for there little ones?

Thanks, Jodie

My daughters were dedicated in the church at 6 weeks and they made the decision to be baptized when they were 5. My son was dedicated at 1 or 2 months old. He's only 13 months now, so isn't baptized yet. He will be when he is old enough to make the decision for himself.

All four of my kids have been dedicated. The two older ones were dedicated when they were just a few weeks old, but my twin girls were dedicated shortly after they turned one. Baby dedications can be done any time. One of the ladies at my church had her 3 year old granddaughter dedicated. I personally believe that baptism is a personal choice. I do not recall reading about any babies being baptized in the Bible, and as Amber said, Jesus wasn't baptized until he was older. It is written in Mark 1 that baptism is for the repentance of sins, therefore I believe you have to be old enough to repent before you should be baptized.

We had our children dedicated 6 months, and 1 month. We believe that you are to dedicate your children to God, basically giving them back to him, A symbol of wanting to raise them to know Jesus as their savior. I believe baptism is when you are at an age of knowing what it even means. I pray one day my childen will come to the point in their walk they want to take the step of baptism. I was baptised when I was 18.

Baptism~~ it has many meanings and it all depends on if you follow what the organized relgion says or if you follow what your christian faith means. I also had my children baptized at birth as Lutheran but I have since walked away from the Lutheran church and am a born again christian. I was recently rebaptized myself. It all depends on where you are at with your faith and understanding. I will someday hope to see my children rebaptized again. I am not sure age is the decision factor of baptism. Good Luck with your journey and best wishes and may God Bless you all!

We dedicated our oldest child, a daughter, as soon as possible. But our other children still have never been dedicated in the church, because when they where babies, we didn't have a church home. I'd still like to dedicate them now. I don't think anytime is too late.

Usually you would wait until they are old enough to take a class(often offered by churches) that teaches them what it means to be Baptized, so that they KNOW what they are committing to and so they are old enough to make such a committment. I would suggest that you have your child "dedicated" or "blessed" by the congregation of your church, and when he is old enough, have him take the class. Hope this helps! (Oh...my daughter was 8 yrs old and my son is now 9 yrs old and is interested in getting Baptized....so he'll be taking the class soon.) Take care and God bless you and your beautiful family!

We are Reformed and had our boys baptized at 3 months and 2 months. In our church it is usually at that age, but I have seen older children and even even adults been baptised if they haven't been before. My nephew was baptised at 6 months.

Even Jesus wasn't "baptized" until he was able to understand what it meant. We had our daughter "dedicated" to Christ (meaning the same as what the previous Amber wrote) when she was 6 months old. However, we have seen children dedicated in our church when they are 4 or 5 years old. It is never too late to stand before your church and give your child to God.

I was raised Baptist and my husband Methodist. I would suggest if you are not sure talk with your minister. I would also encourage you to dedicate the baby. Because if you are not sure that just means that you are asking God's blessing on their life and for his guiding spirt to lead you in raising this child.

Hello,
I didn't start going back to church until my wee girl was six months old, she did not get baptized until she was a year old (3 days after her 1st brithday). I think you can do it anytime was had a woman get baptized at 40 and we are an Anglican church.
I don't know if that is any help?

We still haven't done it yet and our son is 10 months old. We are still meaning to do so.
In our mind, the purpose of a Christian dedication is to verbalize a promise from yourselves and from your church friends and family that you will raise the child in a loving Christian environment.
We haven't found the home church that we want to stay at yet, but once we do, we plan to finally have him dedicated.

My husband and I had our son dedicated when he was 1 month old, after I had recovered enough and was starting to get more sleep.

Jodie,

We dedicated both of our children to the Lord just shortly after their birth. My daughter was about 2 months old when we dedicated her and our son was only 7 days old. My husband was on tour and served in the Iraq war but by the Grace of God he did get to come home so we done his dedication before my husband had to go back. Oh and by the way we are CoG, if that makes any difference.
