As a Christian mother myself, I feel there is nothing wrong with ACTUAL birth control (such as the pills, shots, iud ect NOT the morning after pill). God gave us a brain to use wisdom. Also most pills cause your body to believe its "pregnant" so your body don't even release an egg. Thats what they are SUPPOSE to do. Does it always work in all cases no. I have talked with my pastors on this and there is nothing wrong with it. I've been on the pills, shots and iud and I have a beautiful 3 year old little girl and baby girl #2 on her way in august. But you also have to do what YOU feel is right for you on that. What some feel ok doing others don't. Its not a sin or against God in any way but also as I said we have to use wisdom/common sense.

I'm not at all comfortable with it.



I'm not a fan of messing with my bodies natural function and way of doing things. I don't even like taking an Advil unless I absolutely have to.



After researching birth-control options, I've decided I will not use it. Ever. Some pills actually prevent a fertilized egg from implanting. Yes, to me this would be a form of abortion. The sperm and egg have come together, but because of the type of birth control the woman is on, her uterine lining is thinned, and the egg can't implant.



Basically...for each type of pill, there are three effects. 1. They prevent ovulation. 2. They thicken the mucus around the cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to enter the uterus and reach any eggs that may have been released. 3. The hormones in the pill (estrogen and progesterone -which are in all pills I researched) can sometimes affect the lining of the uterus, making it difficult for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

I took the pill on and off for several years but I always felt uncomfortable about how it worked,though I'd never actually researched it enough.I fell pregnant with my first baby while on the pill and lost the baby as I didn't know I was pregnant right away.Since then I always felt guilty about taking them,cos it just doesn't feel right to be tampering with what God created perfect.I too have heard the pill doesn't prevent conception,which makes me sure I did the right thing in stopping taking the pill a few years ago now.I believe life to be sacred and I regard every baby as a gift from God and I'm truly thankful for each one.I have seven children,three in the last three years,and I am so happy with what I've been given and look forward to what's to come.

The pill does not prevent pregnancy/conception. It prevents the fertilized egg from implanting itself to the wall of the uterus, therefore it is yet another for of abortion.

In the prescription drug reference it clearly states that ANY birth control pill WILL terminate a pregnancy and serves as an abortifacant.... That said personally, I have taken birth control in the past before I fully researched what I was taking. By God's grace I concieved twice and gave birth to those lovely little girls 11 1/2 months a part... Which is why I did the research.... I prayed about the situation a lot and finally came to this.... If God had intended us to decide when to have children, our bodies would be built that way and every child is a gift from God and who am I to turn down a gift like that?! So, I don't use any birthcontrol at all... God's going to bless me with them one way or another and I'm not going to kill them by taking birth control....

I used them in the past and hate them! After my second child I used the implannon and was okay for awhile but started having two periods a month and increase of PMS symptoms that would last for weeks ahead of my period and I did not like the mood swings as well. I am going to make an apt. for a diaphram(i think that is what it is called) it is used with spermicide so no extra hormones to deal with.

any birth control method that does not involve the illimination of a fertilized egg is okay in my opinion. after that, it's whatever method works best for you in your situation. i believe there are some birth control pills out there that can actually illiminate a fertilized egg if that manages to happen, so be VERY sure about what kind of pill you take. as far as birth control tying God's hands, that isn't a valid argument. as long as you are having sex, there is no birth control method that is 100% -- not even surgery. tubes have grown back together. other than abstinence (100%) there is no way to keep God from causing a pregnancy if he wants you to get pregnant, so i don't buy that argument at all. i see birth control just like antibiotics, vaccines, surgery and blood transfusions.

I am sure that my dr. told this to my daughter when he asked her about birth control when he found out that she was sexually active. I was there when he said it because I remember asking him if it was a form of abortion if it doesn't accept the fertilized egg. He said no, but I believe that life starts at conception so to me it would be a form of abortion.

Hormonal birth controls, thicken the lining of your uterus to fool your body into thinking it's already pregnant,so that you don't release an egg each month, therefore making it less likely for you to conceive. Morning after pill, stops the already fertilized egg from embedding into the uterus.

Isn't that the morning after pill Carolyn? ...I was always under the impression that the birth control pill prevents the sperm & egg from ever meeting.... I just got a really sick feeling in my guts...

The sperm and egg meet before the uterus so the pill does something to the lining of the uterus so that it does not accept the fertilized egg. So when you have your period the fertilized egg goes with it. So I feel that it is really a form of abortion.

I have no issues with a woman being on the pill I was for 15 years aside from when I had my son of course . I think as far as being a believer I have to say for me I know I have really tried to hear Gods voice over my own and he tells us what is his plan for our life if we really seek him and want to go in the direction he has for us for me I know I will have another child in the future but its not the path for me right now I am not doing anything to hurt a baby thats already formed and would never but putting off it for now and when he thinks its the right time I think I will know were as he really may be telling the lady next to me that 18 kids are what he has planned for her life its really all about seeking him and letting him guide you in all things and to not mistake your desires for his voice as long as you have that you maybe in a place you never thought youd be but no matter what the outcome is always a blessing

I had no problem with the pill and do not have any moral issue with it either. I didn't stay on it a long time but it worked well for me and I was very fertile in my "child-bearing" years! You have to be careful....antibiotics will cause the pill to not be effective and there are other things as well. Your health care provider can advise you about that stuff. Otherwise, they are made with a very small amount of estrogen now and should not cause weight gain other other problems that the pills years ago had.

Thanks Helen! The ethical debate over the pill is more what I was going for, but thanks to every who has responded anyway! My husband comes from a large family and most of them believe things like the pill and even getting your tubes tied are a big Christian no-no, and that you're playing God but thwarting His plan for any children you might have had while on pill or after you got you tubes tied (both for men & women). But I agree with you Helen. If God's plan evolves you getting pregnant and you're currently on the pill, I don't put God in a box and say that would not be possible for Him to do :)

Hello! I'm not quite clear about your question whether you want to know our opinions on the ethics of taking the oral contraceptive pill or our views about how good it is? As a GP with a special interest in Women's Health, I know enough of the evidence and literature to know that it is a very effective form of contraception if taken properly (although even with 99%+ effectiveness that does of course mean that a few people could still fall pregnant while taking it). As regards the ethics, I don't have a problem with it as it works by preventing the egg and sperm from meeting, and therefore stopping a pregnancy from occurring. If it worked like the morning after pill does, by preventing a fertilised embryo from implanting in the womb, then I would definitely be against it, as I believe spiritually that new life occurs when an embryo is created. I don't believe personally that there is anything wrong with using contraception, as if God planned to give us baby when we weren't planning on it ourselves, I suspect the pill wouldn't stop Him! Taking away life that he has created however is an entirely different matter. xx

I take the pill, I LOVE it! its just like a vitamin everyday, and i dont have to worry about getting prego again. I think it is the safest way to go as far as birth control goes, dont try the other stuff like the Nuva Ring , they are dangerous my cousin got a blood clot in her head from it, scary! But the pill has been around for a LONG time and nobody I know has had any problems! :-)

My experience with birth control pills left much to be desired. I gained a lot of weight - around 35 lbs in one year. I tried a couple different kinds and the doc kept increasing the dosage because of the weight gain, which kept making it worse. My periods went from around 3 days to 6 or 7 days. And cramps went from one really bad day on just the first day to every single day of my period. I had really bad mood swings and started getting severe pain in my abdomen, which were later diagnosed as ovarian cysts. I had no real problems like that before starting birth control.

The problem I have with hormonal birth control is that it messes with your natural cycles and your hormone balances. This has been shown to have various side effects, including increased risk of cancer, children with birth defects, difficulty breastfeeding and so forth. The older I get (I'm 28), the more concerned I get with putting non-natural things in my body. I'm not a health nut or anything, I'm just seeing a lot of good science on the dangers of artificial stuff out there and how it impacts our bodies now and long term.

So, I personally avoid birth control pills like the plague! lol. We watch my natural cycle and either abstain or use other methods (that don't involve chemicals or pills) to prevent pregnancy. Basically, we know when my "safe" time is and have plenty of fun then, but are more cautious during fertile time. And we ask God to give us babies when He is good and ready. It was worked so far. I was off birth control for 3 years before we got pregnant with our first child (four actually, but he was deployed for one year, so that doesn't count :P). And we recently got pregnant with our second, who is due in June a couple days after our son turns three years old. That combination of natural methods and prayer has been great for us.

I had no problem with birth control pills, except that I was on them both times I got pregnant. Divine intervention I guess.:) My husband got a vasectomy after our second one.
