Cow's Milk?

My daughter is almost 10 months old now. She has been eating solids since 4 months, and drinking juice since 6 months, along with nursing. Lately, she only has been nursing before a nap (twice a day) and before bed, and maybe 2 or 3 times at night, or when she first wakes up in morning. Well it seems now she is wanting to nurse less and less. She has been refusing it, when she used to typically want to. I always knew when she wanted to nurse cuz she would fuss and reach for me. Her doctor told me last month not to give cow's milk til she is a year old. But since it seems she is weaning herself off nursing, I'd like to start giving her cow's milk now. She really doesn't like formula at all. But maybe if I mix formula and cow's milk, she could get the nutrients she needs? One of the reasons I found not to give cow's milk is because it can lower iron, and cause anemia. But she eats a lot of cereals, and baby foods, and table food. So I think she is getting plenty of everything she needs. What to do?? She can't just keep having juice instead of nursing. Help please. :)

My niece weened herself from breast feeding at 10 months. My sister was gave her pedi sure. It has the sweet flavor kinda like the sweetness of juice. I remember my sis saying it tasted like vanilla marshmallows and still helped supplement the nutrition she required.

Our stomaches are not made to digest cow's milk at such an early age. It has to do with the type of proteins found in cow's milk. That's why so many people have reactions and allergies to cow's milk at early ages, then grow out of it later in life. One year, or as close as you can get to it is best. I'd trust your doctor on this one.

I used soy milk when my daughter got to that stage. I tried cow's milk, but it made her constipated. But she was able to handle the soy milk. Once she turned 1, I started weaning her off of the soy and onto the cow's milk.

I tried to give my daughter cows milk at 11 months and her stomach could not handle it...she had been eating everything as well. I'd wait. There are formulas, Carnation makes one...that are just for that purpose and taste better...when they are just about ready for whole milk but not quite....Look in the grocery stores and read the labels in the baby section. There are several to choose from. You can also pump breast milk and put it in a cup for her as well.
