My son is 6 months old. Our pediatrician has said "no juices" since the day he was born. He says that you should only feed your baby fresh vegetables and never give them anything with sugar in it. I'm a first time mom and I would like to know everyone's take on this. I wanted to start my son out with a sippy cup soon to make it easier to wean him off of his bottle and just a little to drink once he got finished with his fruits/veggies. I looked at Gerber's website and they say that no more than 4 oz.'s of juice a day is fine. I just wanted to hear from other moms and their opinions on what they did/do with their children.

Thanks in advance!!

I was always told juices like Welchs is okay in moderate. No more than 4 oz a day and to brush soon after.

We gave all of our kids juice at 6 months in a sippy. We started with 90% water and 10% juice, and even now at 2yrs when they get juice it is no more then 1/4 juice. Just make sure that if you do that you don't give more then 4oz of juice a day, and make sure to clean their teeth and gums twice a day.

We gave our kids watered down juice once they were about 10months, before that only baby prune juice when they were bound up or pedialite when they were sick and unable to drink formula or milk. Even now at 4, 6 & 8 they only get about 5oz of juice a day unless it's a special treat, outside of that we give them milk or water or yogurt drinks. If you want to start your son on a sippy cup give him water in it.

Our dentist told us never give kids juice in a sippy cup as it consentrates the juice right on their teeth and rots them, sometimes so bad that it effects the roots and the adult teeth too.

We didn't give our children juice until they were about a year old, maybe 10 - 11 months, and then we still watered it down half and half until they were almost two, and then watered it down three quarters and a quarter until they were just over three, before giving it to them straight. And there was a strict no pop or soda rule until sometime between four and five! It drove me nuts seeing our brother and sister-in-law giving their 18 month old his own cup of pop when we'd go eat at McDonalds (though I'm sure they'd deny in full that he was that young now)!!!

If my children got juice (they rarely did) and not until they were over 1, it was watered down 3/4 water to 1/4 juice. Even up until they hit school age we watered it down. I would give him water in a cup if you want to start him on sippy cups. Or even his formula in a cup. Now at 9,7,6,&4 it is a rare treat for my kids to get juice and so they enjoy it more. They take water to school and get water or milk at supper.
